ETA: And, no, this isn't actually spoilery. If anyone was worried.

ETA 2: OFF-TOPIC, but, READ THIS. XI movie spoilers, gen fic, Spock-focused, multiple characters, it almost made me cry.

Speculating on The Big Bang Theory again:

[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: OMG! YOU KNOW WHAT?
[livejournal.com profile] irrel: WHAT?!
[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: Sheldon and Penny could cosplay as the DOCTOR AND ROSE. Wouldn't that be funny?
[livejournal.com profile] irrel: THEY COULD. YESSSSSS.
[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: His face and hair is like Nine, though a bit dark. Penny would have to convince him to let her highlight it in exchange for agreeing to participate.
[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: The funniest thing is that Sheldon could pull off the Doctor because he'd babble about random scientific things
[livejournal.com profile] irrel: And where would be going dressed like that?
[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: ...a convention? ... ... COMIC CON?
[livejournal.com profile] irrel: TOTALLY
[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: But how would the guys convince Penny to go?
[livejournal.com profile] irrel: Because some hot actor will be there.
[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: They'd tell her she could get into the panel for some famous hot actor... jinx!
[livejournal.com profile] irrel: Hugh Jackman! My vote goes to Wolverine. It's like a THING now.
[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: True. It's a common interest!

[livejournal.com profile] irrel: Howard has to be Captain Jack... LOL a crappy one.

[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: YES. And Raj vehemently refuses to be Mickey--

"We don't look anything alike!" Raj complained.

"So why don't you just wear a gasmask?" said Howard.

"What, because I won't be the one person of color you now want to cover me up entirely? I defy your indiscreet racism."

And, later... )

The ones by MonkeyWithJetpacks are the best, but they're all entertaining, and I think they've covered nearly every song. "Brand New Day" is by far the smoothest melding of the Dr.H music to the imagery/themes of DW, but I really get a kick out of the idea of The Master applying for the Evil League of Evil.

Title: Some Kind of Hero
Fandoms: Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and How I Met Your Mother, with two other minor crossovers if you can catch them!
Source: [livejournal.com profile] barneyrobin Drabblethon Challenge
Genres, Pairings, Characters, etc: Barney/Robin, Hammer/Robin, humor
Spoilers: post-season 3 for HIMYM, pre-canon for Dr.H.
Wordcount: 2,500

Summary / Challenge prompt: “Captain Hammer runs into Barney and mistakes him for Doc Horrible.”

Notes: You’ll have to forgive me for this one, folks. It was born of a challenge, and it’s a bit of a parody at heart. Please, please do not take it seriously. There are run-on sentences, and a lot of silliness too.

Some Kind of Hero

''Okay, I lied. I am Doctor Horrible. You found me, damn you.'' )
timepiececlock: (Bite me. -Toph)
Sometimes I like to pretend that all the characters of Heroes are really just minor off-screen characters in the same world as The 4400, and that it's all a fault of the people from the future, and that Jordon Collier has currently annexed the west coast, and that the drug is loose, and that one day Isabelle will meet all three Petrelli brothers, look at them, squash them under her heel, and say "The most special? Pathetic, foolish little men. I am a god to you, I can be inside your head, I can rip you apart with less than a look, and you cannot touch me. So go hide in a corner and cower until I pass."

And you know, Isabelle wasn't even my favorite character. But I just can't help but think that even in her "why am I here?" angst she was still more fun than all this rubbish.

I watched the first two episodes of season 2 of Pushing Daisies, and in 2x02, I caught what I believe is a reference to Dead Like Me... Ned said he went under cover through the temp employment agency "Happy Time"! Where George worked for most of two seasons. Do the two shows have writers in common? Anyway, it cheers me to think they exist in the same verse. There's a lot of similarity there.

(I don't have time to write fanfic anymore, only imagine it.)

You know what's really sadly funny? You could imagine Barney's life like this:

Childhood: The young, wide-eyed and good-hearted Doogie Howser becomes a teen prodigy in the medical field.

Early Twenties: Disillusioned and disaffected with the medical profession and angry with the world at large, the brilliant young doctor changes his name to Billy, abandons his family, friends, relatives, and high income status, moves out to Los Angeles, and takes on the mantle of Doctor Horrible, supervillain.

Mid-Twenties: After losing the first person he ever loved, Billy gave up being Doctor Horrible and relocated again, this time to New York, where he re-connected with his long-lost half-brother, Wayne Brady, and took on the name Barney Stinson. He decided that instead of ruling the world he should try living life as a normal person and help in smaller idealistic ways, to make Penny proud. He met Shannon and fell in love again, only to have his heart broken again.

Late Twenties / Early Thirties: Suffering from his second heartbreak and his second failure at retaining and idealistic world view, Barney once again embraces cynicism: he goes corporate. He does terrible things and makes an insane amount of money, but when he's not at work he clings to his loyal circle of friends, finally finding a balance between the good and evil inside his heart.

And on the plus side, he no longer has to give people colon exams.
timepiececlock: (Rashaka is my name)
Marshall hatches a theory that Barney's secret mystery job is being Dr. Horrible. Ensue hilarity.
timepiececlock: (Spy no Jutsu)
::discussing How I Met Your Mother and the movie CLOVERFIELD::

[livejournal.com profile] irrel: Since I couldn't see the guy with the camera, I kept thinking it was Marshall because he had some weird sense of humor. And the lame lead going all the way to the girl's apartment... so Ted. And yes, I AM obsessed. I think it made the movie even sadder.

[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: Oooh, that does make sense. MARSHALL! And Ted... so typical.

[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: Robin and Barney would be running around with machine guns killing the monster babies.

[livejournal.com profile] irrel: YES.

[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: YES.

[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: This is, in fact, EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. They live in the city. They were totally there.

[livejournal.com profile] irrel: I agree.

So. There's this entire subset of fandom who write Methos/everything crossovers. Not just Highlander crossovers, Methos crossovers.

For example, this person, who has written crossover fic with Methos as a main character for Doctor Who, Veronica Mars, Firefly, and Stargate. And there's other authors who do the same thing! Why? BECAUSE METHOS IS AWESOME.

1. Methos is a character from Highlander who is more than five times as old as The Doctor, very clever, and one of the plain coolest character on television.
2. Highlander is the easiest show EVER to use for crossovers, because in theory it spans all of human history and every culture. (well, Doctor Who is good for crossovers too, I admit.)
3. Of all the Highlander's main cast, Methos is the oldest character alive and thus the most cross-able with any fandom, even in the space-going future, so he is almost a ficdom unto himself when it comes to fanfic sites.

Sadly, while I've found plenty of Methos/Stargate crossovers and Methos/X Men crossovers and Methos/Star Trek crossovers and a few Methos/Doctor Who crossovers, I've never yet found a fic where Methos travels as The Doctor's actual companion. Which is a damn shame, because those two? WOULD BE AWESOME.

It's like two massive egos, two very clever minds, and two crotchety old men. Methos is 5000+ years to the Doctor's 900, but the Doctor's smarter and has better toys. Methos has a "flexible" morality that adapts to situations while the Doctor has very strong ethical beliefs. Both guys are the kind who survive most life or death situations by talking fast then running for their lives. Both are also insidiously charming, and as persistent and difficult to kill as cockroaches.

See how awesome a companion he'd make? I wish someone would write that epic crossover fic. For me. Just for us.

I'm randomly speculating on how to make a crossover between The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Doctor Who. I'm not sure why, except the idea tickled. Whether or not this fic would get written I don't know, but if any DW fans on my flist happen to also be tMoHS fans, I wouldn't mind some feedback on plot-a-bility.

>>Original concept as an MHS fic which feeds to the idea of how to cross it with DW.

Warning: HUGE SPOILERS for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. No spoilers for DW past season 3, though.

P.S. If you've never seen or read The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, do so now because it's hilarious (and sometimes offensive). Probably slightly more hilarious if you've seen other anime series before and can catch all the meta, but still funny even for an initiate. side note: the feminist in me was both highly satisfied and deeply insulted, which rarely happens in the same show.

I just finished reading The Last Unicorn (oh why did I wait until my 20s to read this?) and later today I'll read its coda, Two Hearts. But I was browsing the back of my hardcover, which has an index of Peter S. Beagle's published work, and what do I find listed under essays but this?---

"The Good Vampire: Spike and Angel", Peter S. Beagle. Five Seasons of Angel, 2004.

OH MY @$&)*#&$*()#&(@!.

So, not only is the book every bit as amazing as I remember the film being, in fact better times about 10 because the descriptions are just as wonderful as the dialogue, and not only was I reading it the whole time thinking of both my childhood, my dreams of how to write fiction well, and how I know somewhere in my bones that at least one of the people who made Princess Tutu must have watched/read this story, but now all that is topped with the pure and untainted joy of realizing that the author is a BTVS fan.

Who wrote an essay about Spike and Angel character analysis.

That was published in a collection.

That I can hunt down and read in the bookstore.

This is a freaking great morning already! I love discovering fellow fans, even if I don't interact with them personally. Just knowing that someone whose writing I now admire ardently also loved my all-time favorite tv show enough to write an essay about it twists the plaits of my heart. So I will top this joyous entry with an icon that calls to mind another great fantasy story with the words of another great fantasy song: truisms both.

ETA: some of rasielle's comments on Princess Tutu and The Last Unicorn, spoilers for tLU but not its sequel, spoilers for PT, long ramblings on similarities and reincarnated fictional characters and why Schmendrick=Fakir=Peter S. Beagle in my head. )

I spent about 10 minutes pondering the lack of entertaining Avatar/Harry Potter crossovers on the internet, and pondering whether I wanted to bother even outlining one. I decided I didn't-- HP fanfic is just too hard to write. Takes too much preparation and research. Even 2 years ago, when I was writing plenty of HP fic, I frequently invented my own magic names and stuff because I couldn't be bothered to fact-check with the books.

But I couldn't resist making a "What If They Were Sorted" list for the ATLA characters. Here you go.

Being that I'm one of the few fans out there who HAVEN'T broken down and watched the two new spoiler episodes of Avatar floating through the internets, I'm forced to find other ways to occupy my time.

I got to thinking about ships and cahracters based on fanon or OC characters or random what-if AUs, particularly for shows I've been fans of for a long time, or were older fandoms. Ideas that I never wrote about, or only read random snippets for by other ficcers. Example...

Inu Yasha: Inu Yasha and Kagome have a daughter, and their daughter grows up to marry Shippou. SHUT UP YOU KNOW ITS TRUE. SHE DECIDED IT WHEN SHE WAS FIVE.

Avatar TLA: Jet is the bastard war-rape son of Commander Zhoa, who probably sent the order for his village to burn. Their sociopathies have disturbing similarities. YES.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Marta and Greed were totally sleeping together. And Greed was once Dante's husband, whom she killed because she couldn't control him. Also, I am one of the maybe 11 people on the internet who ship Noa/Ed.

Doctor Who: Don Cheadle should be the 11th Doctor. IS THIS NOT BRILLIANT. Also, Rose meets Nine in her AU, while carrying 10's secret child. We all know that's what that last conversation on the beach was about.

Planet Earth on the Discovery Channel: all camera crews + me = 4 eva big love

Stephen King's The Dark Tower hypothetical future movie: Jake Gyllenhaal in 15-18 years, or Christian Bale in five.

Princess Tutu: Drosselemeyer is the Wizard of Oz, and one windy day Fakir too will know how it feels to lose a heart.

Title: "Eight Crazy Pilots Serenity Didn't Keep"

Author: [livejournal.com profile] tassosss

Rating: PG

Fandoms: Firefly, Farscape, SGA, SG1, Star Wars, BSG

Spoilers: a lot

Why you should read it: It builds up my heart and breaks it with every drabble. I love Serenity/Firefly fics that crossover with other space shows, and this doesn't disappoint. The two Farscape drabbles twisted my heart.

Link: River found John Crichton making pictures in the clouds from a rooftop. He had pretty drawings on his arms that danced in five dimensions and talked to the creature in his head who wore funny memories. He was surprised when she talked back to them both.
