[livejournal.com profile] tishaturk posted about how to find fanvids with less violence. These are the recs I gave her/him:

Doctor Who vids, especially shipper vids, might have notably less violence.

[livejournal.com profile] humansrsuperior has Meet The Doctor, which works as a sample 'trailer' style vid, and has no real violence. Also, it's seriously cute.

'All in All' is a DW vid that might work for you...it has little moments of violence, but that's just a tiny part; the purpose of the video is life struggle and friendship, not violence. It's a multicharacter, multiship video that I thought worked very well. I couldn't figure out where I'd originally gotten it from, and google failed me, so I uploaded it directly for you.

Avatar: The Last Airbender vids are especially interesting because they borrow a lot of style decisions from anime vidding community, but like live action-based vidders, they're predominantly female and exist more on Livejournal, youtube, and imeem than on amv.org.

Don't Put It In Your Mouth by [livejournal.com profile] vickiso is a humorous Public Service Announcement.

Scars of Time (Bending) by [livejournal.com profile] stick is a gorgeous video about the magical martial arts of ATLA. Half of it seems about violence, the other half is about pure physicality, dance, and physical-philosophical expression. It's also a fantastic video to show the advantages of instrumental music, where lyrics would only get in the way. I didn't see it on her website so I uploaded a direct-download link to the version I have saved already.

Anime Music Videos

Hold Me Now, hands down my favorite AMV, for the show Princess Tutu. If you follow the 'indirect' link at the bottom you can download the pretty version from her website. It's also been re-posted about 400 times on youtube. It's all about ballet. So there's some violence...ballet violence. Either way, it's an excellent peak into the kind of graphic matching and visual-color vibrancy you can get from anime videos that you often can't from live action vids. You don't have to know the fandom to appreciate it, in fact this won Best In Show at a con and many people went to watch the series just because of this one video.

The Tainted Love of Haruhi Suzumiya, a relationship video that amuses me for being more about a bad relationship than a good one. The story: Boy falls in love with girl in his class. Girl is egomaniacal, brilliant, fun to be around, scary as hell, and possibly the antagonist of the show. The video uses the bright, warm, gorgeous animation of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and does some nice color effects to give accent to the transitions. It's sometimes hard to tell what color effects are from the vidder and what were part of the series.

Still Preoccupied with 1985 by Suberunker Studeosh, a character-study video that uses crazy fun tricks like split screens, manipulated images that parody famous bands and anime shows. It's fantastically edited and easy to understand without having seen the series. Also interesting to note: the characters of the show it sources, Azumanga Daioh, are entirely female. It's about a girls school and I think the only male in sight is a distantly creepy gym teacher. The video focuses on a very stressed out middle school teacher and all the crap she has to put up with every day. No violence, though she does end up yelling at people a lot.

Fanvids crossing the songs of Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog with clips from the show Doctor Who. Why? BECAUSE IF YOU VID IT, THEY WILL COME. Oh yes. Make sure to watch in high quality when available! None of these are by me. Note spoiler warnings.

The ones by MonkeyWithJetpacks are the best, but they're all entertaining, and I think they've covered nearly every song. "Brand New Day" is by far the smoothest melding of the Dr.H music to the imagery/themes of DW, but I really get a kick out of the idea of The Master applying for the Evil League of Evil.

I really want to see a Bones Booth/Brennan fan vid to the song "Falling Slowly" from the movie Once, except the video in my head takes place after the seventh season when the show ends and the curtain closes on a kiss (god knows) you can tell the end is near...

1.) So I've re-watched the end of "The Stolen Earth" about eighteen times. Not because it's my favorite episode or anything, but because, well, you know. OTPs, and all. Ridiculously huge smiles, too. They even used the same theme music!

2.) Jumping back in time; I still haven't watched the Christmas Special from 2007, with the Titanic spaceship. I just never got around to it.

Should I? Is there any real reason to do so? I've heard no one liked it.

3.) I've been scouring [livejournal.com profile] goin_my_way and [livejournal.com profile] time_and_chips for reunion fic. Overdosing on the stuff. Making up for twelve weeks of NOT watching my show when I totally should have been.

4.) for your analysis! A cut and paste of the transcript of 4x12, the ending scene.

transcript: END of 4x12 ''Stolen Earth'' major spoilers )

I don't know how genuine the transcript script is, but it looks fine to me, and other people seem to take the site as genuine.

It's quite odd to read a dramatic scene out of context in script format... it definitely loses something. Or, I suppose, it gains something with the filming.

I love any band that can inspire random people to brush their teeth on youtube for 4 minutes straight. Even the little blond kiddies have learned to air guitar with a toothbrush. If someone had showed me this as a kid, I like to think I would have complained a lot less about brushing my teeth.

Each band member also did individual versions: http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=TheLudoVideoThing, which tells me these guys, aside from writing catchy tunes, are deeply dorky and fully committed to having a fun instead of angsting. I appreciate that in a rock band.

As a fandom side note, this is now my Azula/Beach Guy epic love song. As a second fandom side note, apparently the band named themselves after that giant character in The Labyrinth.

[livejournal.com profile] circe_tigana, thank you for pointing me to this fantasmagoric Doctor Who fan trailer.

Which I cannot stop watching.

Because it's totally canon in my head.

Also, I might start crying any minute. Because... it's totally canon in my head, you know? CANON.
timepiececlock: (JET STALKS ZUKO)
[livejournal.com profile] sylvacoer made me a Jet video to "How To Save A Life", because she is special and full of fluffy goodness.

Reasons you should watch it:

1) It's a Jet video that's actually got angst and a purpose.
2) Betrayal and hypnotism and lost chances and misguided anger!
3) It's got a Jet/Zuko clip to the line "He will admit to everything."
4) Teahouse swordfighting!
5) It's not a happy story.

wonderful and strange:

The Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy has this to say about Time Lords:

The Time Lords may or may not have existed. Legend has it that they were the first race to discover time travel. Instead of doing something exciting, like conquering the universe, they stayed on their home planet, wearing elaborate and uncomfortable fashions, and writing treatises about peace, stability and mathematics.

Apparently Dead Like Me has either started airing on SciFi already, or will soon. Man I liked that show. I really, really liked it. And then it was cancelled! Just about the same time Carnivale was cancelled. Argh.

Nostalgia prompted a youtube browsing session, which led to this adorable George/Mason video:

vidder: tripmywire06
song: Dandy Worhols - "Bohemian Like You"
spoilers: everything for season 1 and 2
link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX6Im1qjZc0

The song choice is inspired-- it fits the characters perfectly, and the beat generally goes well with the beat/tempo of the show itself: quirky.

Random thought: I'd love to see a House / Dead Like me crossover. Just imagine it! Gregory House as a reaper. He'd be even MORE bitchy. But he'd also get a massive kick out of messing with people's heads. And if he got bored he could explain to the newly dead in precise medical terminology exactly how they expired.

A pretty amusing cosplay masquerade skit of Rose Tyler, the Tenth Doctor, psychic paper, and a Dalek.

He even takes out his glasses and puts them on in the middle of the skit. 50 POINTS FOR GLASSES POWER.

Apparently the con was in Toronto, don't know what it was called. I am vastly, VASTLY amused. Oh, and you should watch the clip all the way to the end.

I'm also cracking up like serious business over this Tenth Doctor video to the song "Jesus Walks" by Kanye West. It's like a parody of the Ten's god complex and a sincere music vid at the same time. And DW to a rap song? Weirdly, it works. [livejournal.com profile] donna_c_punk, you especially gotta check this out.

The only problem is it uses a few too many scenes from that episode that doesn't really exist.
timepiececlock: (Doctor/Rose kiss [B&W])
This has pretty much everything I could ever want in a Doctor/Rose video.

Rose/Nine, Rose/Ten, a whole lotta smiling and a whole lotta heartbreak.

It's a bit odd to think about it, but the Doctor and Rose have hugged more and kissed less than just about any canon OTP I've shipped. But they hug like people who are sleeping together, so I'm not sure the lack actually has any relevence.

Is there a website or forum somewhere to recommend ideas for anime vidders? Like, the good vidders.

Because I want to know why it is that the internet has not produced a Naruto|Sasuke video to A & B Song yet.

Seriously, internet, WHY?!

There's five million Naruto and Sasuke videos out there to crap Linkin Park songs. Can't one of you make a video to this song instead? Please?

I don't ask much of you, Naruto fandom. Very little, actually.

Just give me this one single thing!

...should I try [livejournal.com profile] chuunin, do you think?

Anyone on my friends list who's seen Princess Tutu, that most fabulously meta and literary of animes, YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS MUSIC VIDEO.

It's 4 down from the top of the page, labeled "Hold Me Now". The song is in some kind of foreign language (German?---I looked it up. Swedish.), and...guh. It's not only the best PT video I've seen (there's very few), but it's one of the best videos I've seen period when it comes to timing/transition of character movement across the screen. The anime is about dance, the story is about dance, and this video is a dance. A crazy, dark, sordid dance that crosses pairings and characters and captures everything I loved so much about PT. Also? Spoilery like hell.

The site says it won "Best Action" and "Best in Show" at Anime Boston 2006 and "Best Free Form" at Fanime 2006. If I'd still lived in San Jose and gone to Fanime, I'd've voted for it.

[livejournal.com profile] donna_c_punk, if you've decided never to finish PT, watch this video. If there's even the tiniest sliver of hope in your heart that you might continue it later, then ignore this and when you've finished the show I'll find the link for you again.

EDIT: I watched it again. I still love it so much. And I'm amazed that anyone managed to make an award-winning action video out of Princess Tutu, which, while dark, is not usually what I'd call "action". "Interpretive Action" maybe. ;)
