timepiececlock: (S/U - I set you apart)
So, la la la! Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] irrel drew and posted a gen Kirk + Spock BFF comic strip for me. It's the most LOLtastic present I've gotten in ages, inspired from HIMYM dialogue and illustrated with ridiculously amusing expressions. Totally movie spoilery.

Go check it out and have a giggle!

I've seen some discussion of Emmy nominations on my flist, and I haven't mentioned it, but I do feel I wanted to say something in regards to The Big Bang Theory.

I think Jim Parsons is a hilarious actor and if he gets tapped for best actor in a comedy, that it will be a worthwhile nomination and if he gets it, a solid win.

However. And this is a big HOWEVER.

As much as I love the fandom, and as entertaining as Sheldon is, I do not think The Big Bang Theory is the best comedy on tv. I'm conflicted as to whether I think it should even be nominated. But if it were to get nominated and win over How I Met Your Mother, I will scream my rage across the internet. How I Met Your Mother has had probably the most hilarious season of its run so far, on top of having brilliantly developed characters, continuity so constant and clever it makes me deliriously happy, and genuinely moving storylines. It is six or seven times the show that TBBT is.

Will I be upset if HIMYM loses to Two and a Half Men? A little disgruntled, but I've never watched 2.5Men so I can't judge. But I have seen the entire second season of TBBT, and it doesn't even hold a burning twig, much less a candle, to HIMYM's season. I love writing Sheldon/Penny fanfic and reading it, but in many ways, the TBBT fandom is what I want the show to be. What I imagine the characters could be if they were written better, developed more, given more heart and more wit and if the actors were simply handed better fucking material. On the other hand, I've barely written anything for HIMYM because, honestly, it already is everything I would wish it to be.

G.I.P.

Free for the sharing. =)

ETA: And, no, this isn't actually spoilery. If anyone was worried.

ETA 2: OFF-TOPIC, but, READ THIS. XI movie spoilers, gen fic, Spock-focused, multiple characters, it almost made me cry.
timepiececlock: (Barney&Robin - Maybe I Even Love You)
Spock is Jim Kirk's best friend. Jim is Spock's really good friend.

This is a distinction that will cause Kirk some anxiety in upcoming sequels, I can tell. He will cling too hard to the captain's chair arm-rest and monopolize the comm to whine about it to Bones (his really good friend), who will in turn complain to Spock, who will calmly inform Kirk that having a friend be arbitrarily set above other friends in a rank of personal value is illogical, and if he'd be hard pressed to do so, he certain that the communications lieutenant's ranking would render the exercise moot by creating a positive outlier that disrupts the entire scale, but Jim Kirk doesn't believe in no-win scenarios.

Watched it, loved it, giggled at it, can't really figure out what to say about it. There's just too much!

Except maybe that I'm finally liking Ted again this season.
timepiececlock: (Origin of Love)
I think the humor in HIMYM episodes are really come-and-go for some people. I get that. But the last, I don't know, 8 episodes have been solid make-me-laugh-and-giggle-ridiculously episodes. This one added to that. There's something very free about this season in terms of embracing the silliness and the love, and that formula has translated to mucho grande laughs from me.

So, yeah, I loved this episode too. In fact, in terms of # of laughs per ep, this was one of the highest of the season for me. )

I figured out who the mother is: )

[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: I just had the weirdest thought. A fun way to describe tBBT might be to say...

[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: ...
[livejournal.com profile] rashaka: And then they make it a sitcom.
[livejournal.com profile] irrel: That works so well it's almost scary.

So that's my hypothesis on the origin of The Big Bang Theory. True story.

CBS presents: Barney + Robin = BRo Love

OMG LOVE LOVE LUFF LOVEY LOOOOOOOOOVE. Thank you CBS promo editing department.

It's so...sappy! And that's the most LOLtastic thing. They didn't just make a video... they made a FULL video, with vid-style end credits, with a sad romantic love song (doubly ironic for this anti-romance pairing), with "BRo Love" as a fan reference to the pairing, with dialogue quotes, with cheesy contrast-heavy effects, and with that last little awesome audio tag at the end. I LOVE CBS's PROMO DEPARTMENT SO MUCH RIGHT NOW.

They clearly know their audience. ^___^

Edit 1: I don't know how to do a youtube proxy for non-US folks, sorry! Someone did recommend this to me, but I can't vouch.

Edit 2: On rewatching, this just reminds me how sad it is that no one has yet done a video for the TRUEST of true HIMYM ships: Barney/alcohol. Or whole!cast/alcohol. Seriously, how much do these people drink?

HIMYM 4x14 - "Barney Stinson: That Guy's Awesome / The Possimpible"

This was the funniest episode of the season so far. The big one-liners were funny, the support one-liners were funny, and even the physical acting was hilarious. From Barney's unseen/ignored gesture to Robin's camera expressions to Marshall and Lily awkwardness (I can relate, Marshall!). Every scene in this episode had something to make me laugh, sometimes several things.

...and this Awfesome clip under the cut just topped the episode for me. )

How I Met Your Mother, tonight's ep...This is so going on my livejournal! )

On a totally separate note, I loved Penny's shirt in this episode of The Big Bang Theory. The dark orange one. Probably my favorite thing I've seen her character wear.

You know what's really sadly funny? You could imagine Barney's life like this:

Childhood: The young, wide-eyed and good-hearted Doogie Howser becomes a teen prodigy in the medical field.

Early Twenties: Disillusioned and disaffected with the medical profession and angry with the world at large, the brilliant young doctor changes his name to Billy, abandons his family, friends, relatives, and high income status, moves out to Los Angeles, and takes on the mantle of Doctor Horrible, supervillain.

Mid-Twenties: After losing the first person he ever loved, Billy gave up being Doctor Horrible and relocated again, this time to New York, where he re-connected with his long-lost half-brother, Wayne Brady, and took on the name Barney Stinson. He decided that instead of ruling the world he should try living life as a normal person and help in smaller idealistic ways, to make Penny proud. He met Shannon and fell in love again, only to have his heart broken again.

Late Twenties / Early Thirties: Suffering from his second heartbreak and his second failure at retaining and idealistic world view, Barney once again embraces cynicism: he goes corporate. He does terrible things and makes an insane amount of money, but when he's not at work he clings to his loyal circle of friends, finally finding a balance between the good and evil inside his heart.

And on the plus side, he no longer has to give people colon exams.
timepiececlock: (Rashaka is my name)
Marshall hatches a theory that Barney's secret mystery job is being Dr. Horrible. Ensue hilarity.
