Television Streaming Sites

1. http://www.Hulu.com - If you've never heard of Hulu, you a) didn't watch Doctor Horrible online last year, or b) haven't seen the laughable Alien Alec Baldwin commercial from the superbowl. Hulu is great, though you may be asked to watch the same car commercial six times in one episode. Unfortunately, it's difficult to predict what episodes or seasons will be available, and what won't. Note: only available in the U.S.

2. http://www.surfthechannel.com/ - SurfTheChannel doesn't host episodes; it lists shows and, by individual episode, links you to an array of different streaming websites. I watched the entire first three seasons of How I Met Your Mother on this website, linked to funky Japanese and Korean servers that sometimes had Chinese subs, but I was a happy cat.

Websites with Direct Download Resources/Archives

1. http://www.cyber12.com/ - [Anime Download Resource Archive] - TONS! mostly linked via MegaUpload and similar file sending websites, and you don't need to register for it. Mostly recent stuff and some old stuff.

2. http://www.narutoengdub.co.nr/ - [JustDubs] - download complete dubbed series!

3. http://www.anime-eden.com/ - [Anime Eden] - huge archive of many series, usually complete, download from servers two at a time, also music, free registration necessary. They have a lot of older series as well as new ones, and anime movies.

4. http://www.boontan.net/ - [Boontan] - several series, download from servers, free registration necessary, lots of recent obscure series.

6. http://mesmerisz.livejournal.com/3570.html - a livejournal masterpost list with a few hundred series linked through megaupload, well organized. Only recent stuff from the last two years.

7. http://www.anikat.com - Large archive, linked via MegaUpload and similar sites, no registration necessary.

8. http://www.lolipower.org/

1. http://www.onemanga.com/directory/ - [OneManga] - This is where I get my Naruto updates; there's a huge database, no sign-up necessary. I view online.

2. http://stoptazmo.com/ - [StopTazmo] - Another large database, direct downloading of zip files. This site was created as a hate-letter to another download site [NarutFan], apparently.

Here's the updated list. If it weren't for these websites, I'd probably have more friends. They will corrupt your fannish soul...

Tweeny Witches / Mahou Shoujotai Alice

Anime I need to watch:

Now And Then, Here And There
Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto
Ergo Proxy

Some of these shows I've actually owned for three years and still haven't watched! It's positively ridiculous that I haven't finished Monster yet. I stopped in the middle because of some RL stuff and never picked it back up until now...

For newer fansubbed anime, this has become the preferred way of distribution. Bittorrent is becoming a thing of the past. I hesitate to wonder what would happen to all of the anime fans (and all of the television fans too) if one day all the file sending sites on the internet collapsed and vanished?

Potential Epic Fics I've Yet To Finish

Our Cartography: [Avatar: The Last Airbender] My post-first season AU epic friendship/UST/adventure fic for Katara and Zuko, that got derailed after the season 2 premier stole one of my climax ideas and sent me into a crushing spiral of envy-angst. As [livejournal.com profile] akavertigo said, most writers are jealous, maniacal, and possessive about our ideas. Having them stolen by canon is almost worse than having plaigarized by another fan, cause I've nobody to be properly mad at. I'm still getting over this, and there are very strong chances I'll get back to this fic.

Salience & Synergy: [Avatar: The Last Airbender] My season 1 AU fic, with Iroh teaching Aang to firebend while he sits in Zuko's ship on the way to the Fire Nation capital. I still have hopes of finishing this one, actually. I love the idea of writing something trancendental, something that has nothing to do with romance and everything to do with philosophy and spirituality. Aang and Zuko have such a heavy dynamic, as do Iroh and Zuko.

The Mindwalker Ninja: [Naruto] My epic Ino Yamanaka life-fic, an AU that would span 20 years and see her through relationships with Shikamaru and Sasuke. This one has a lot of outlining done, particularly with regards to Ino's part in the final battle with Orochimaru, and with Sasuke's future. I stopped writing it because Naruto came off haiatus after the age jump, and I began to lose interest in the fandom, and the Ino that came out of more manga began to differ from my idea of Ino, who was half OC anyway given that we knew so little about her. Still, there's a lot of potential for writing more with this.

Mon Autre Vie: [Fruits Basket] My would-be epic Tohru Honda / Sohma family drama fic, which was based on a damn cool premise, if I do say so myself. Again, I began to grow distant from the fandom, particularly when I stopped reading the manga scanlatioons and subsequently had to give up on fanfic for fear of being spoiled. I had a good deal outlined for this fic, though not as much as the two above, and I wish I could write more even though I somehow doubt I'll get back to it.

Dane: [Harry Potter] A result of my Shakespeare crush, a massive epic based on fusing Harry Potter and Hamlet, a post-book 5 AU that would have had the students of Hogwarts unwittingly play out the entire play all the way to its tragic ending. It would have been really fucking cool, if I hadn't lost the massive outline I did for it. A full break down of character roles and plotlines, incredible amounts of detail... all gone. I was pretty upset about it, trust me.

Orpheus Child: [Cowboy Bebop] The closest thing I've done to outlining a complete novel, and it would have been one of the best fics I'd written. A post-series fic about Spike rediscovering his life, about family ties and blood and love and friendship, about the horrors of adulthood and childhood. Somewhere I have an outline for this SOMEWHERE I DO. I just don't know where it is right now. But it was a great outline, plotting the major events of each chapter, the emotional arcs of each character, the themes, allusions, and metaphors of the story, the thrilling climax, and even chapter titles pulled exclusively from poems by e. e. cummings and Shel Silverstein, as part of the mythology/children's story motif. And now it's been so very long since I watched CB... I wouldn't even remember how to write Spike's dialogue, or Jet's or Ed's dialogue.

51 Ways To Draw A Perfect Circle : [Fullmetal Alchemist] My once grand idea to do a drabble for every episode of FMA, each in a different character (50 total). I only got so far as 10, but I selected the main characters for all 51. Next time I sit down to watch an FMA marathon, I might take it up again and finish.

It's kind of depressing that "I lost the outline" the major reason for most of these fics dying, isn't it? And for the rest, it's lost interest. My interest wanders too easily, I'm sad to say, when it comes to fiction writing. Hopefully I'll get over that one day. You'll notice that neither of my two ATLA long drabble series, Night Has Come or Culture Clash, are up here. That's because they're too skimpy in word count to be called epic, and also because I plan on writing more for them, beyond all doubt.

Being that I'm one of the few fans out there who HAVEN'T broken down and watched the two new spoiler episodes of Avatar floating through the internets, I'm forced to find other ways to occupy my time.

I got to thinking about ships and cahracters based on fanon or OC characters or random what-if AUs, particularly for shows I've been fans of for a long time, or were older fandoms. Ideas that I never wrote about, or only read random snippets for by other ficcers. Example...

Inu Yasha: Inu Yasha and Kagome have a daughter, and their daughter grows up to marry Shippou. SHUT UP YOU KNOW ITS TRUE. SHE DECIDED IT WHEN SHE WAS FIVE.

Avatar TLA: Jet is the bastard war-rape son of Commander Zhoa, who probably sent the order for his village to burn. Their sociopathies have disturbing similarities. YES.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Marta and Greed were totally sleeping together. And Greed was once Dante's husband, whom she killed because she couldn't control him. Also, I am one of the maybe 11 people on the internet who ship Noa/Ed.

Doctor Who: Don Cheadle should be the 11th Doctor. IS THIS NOT BRILLIANT. Also, Rose meets Nine in her AU, while carrying 10's secret child. We all know that's what that last conversation on the beach was about.

Planet Earth on the Discovery Channel: all camera crews + me = 4 eva big love

Stephen King's The Dark Tower hypothetical future movie: Jake Gyllenhaal in 15-18 years, or Christian Bale in five.

Princess Tutu: Drosselemeyer is the Wizard of Oz, and one windy day Fakir too will know how it feels to lose a heart.

For [livejournal.com profile] akavertigo, who is busy reading Itachi/Sakura fic. Oh no, babe, no. If you're going to read spicy Naruto fanfic pairing Sakura with a random older male character, go for the Kakashi stuff, for he is ever so much sexier than Itachi. Kakasaku is my secret vice pairing of Naruto fic, so I guess this is me coming out of the cupboard.

All of the following fics were initially found through fav lists on ff.net, and branching out from there. That's how I browse The Pit these days, and it saves me a lot of time. Enjoy the recs, my flist!

Kakashi/Sakura Fanfiction Rec List

Chapter Fics

Another Wolf: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1694002/1/ (tense, sexy, the fic that made me and half the ff.net fandom hooked on this pairing...hell the summary alone wins: "And now the wolf is at my door, and things are never going to be like before.")

Duty Before Honor: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2923653/1/ (dark, sexy, dark, actiony, sexy, dark... can't praise it enough)

The Window: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3161976/1/ (wicked, frank but awesome, short, brilliant, and disturbing in a hilarious way)

Glass Castle: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1879007/1/ (adorable mix of Team7 gen adventures & Kakasaku romance, surprisingly funny, and has a PERFECT in-character Sakura.)

Seven Days: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3063206/1/ (humor, light-hearted with snap)

To Mend This Dream: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1796093/1/ (actiony, interesting, limited romance so far, but good; unfinished)

Crash: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2841295/1/ (action, slow romance, interesting plot, odd but enjoyable)

Fated: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2144296/1/ (epic future-fic, with romance and drama)

Blackmail: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3050569/1/ (humor, sexy)

Courage Needs You: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2247839/1/ (um... darkish, distubing, sexy in a weird way, somewhat OOC but interesting nonetheless)

The Scarecrow: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3137789/5/ (kind of a suspence fic... it's interesting and promises to be dark and has and older Sakura that's actually in-character. I like it bunches.)

*A Girl Thing: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1414183/1/ (NOT romantic or sexy AT ALL...though you might think it's going some pervy place, don't be scared because it's not. It's actually quite sweet and funny, a friendship fic set in early team 7.)

Welcome Home: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3159182/1/ (A++)

Unbidden: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2818761/1/

Years Passing By: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2380540/1/

Cold: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1967033/1/

Some thoughts on the pairing: I'm amazed that most of the Kakashi/Sakura fic out there is mature-rated. Some of it is fluff, but not as much as you'd think, and oft times even the ones that don't have sexuality do have mature themes on ninja violence and angst. But for one of the characters being significantly younger than the other character, it's very sexualized. I guess everyone wants to jump Kakashi in fanfiction. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

Most of these fics have pretty decent Kakashi characterization, believably stretching what we know of him in the series into a character more workable in a romantic or sexualized environment. Some versions of Kakashi I like more than others, but none of the ones I recced here have major hang-ups. The characterization of Sakura seems to be all over the board, though, even in the higher quality fics. Because the fics involve her being anywhere from 2 to 7 years older than the current manga timeline, a lot of this is speculation on how Sakura would behave as an adult. That means there's a wide range-- but that's nothing new for Naruto fanfiction, or other fandoms like Harry Potter or Avatar where you have to speculate on the adult personas of adolescent characters. It also depends on how the writer includes post-time-jump canon in their fic.

I reread Another Wolf, which is so good but OMFGWRONG at the same time. Because really, teenagers with older men is usually a squick for me. On account of it being illegal and gross (which is why I still haven't read Lolita yet). But here I got sucked into the OMFGWRONG of it, and what do you know. Still as good a fanfic as it was when I read it a year ago. I blame it on really quality writing and expert use of tension in a scene. (FYI, this fic is only PG-13, and is pretty subtle, more about anticipation than event. )

I am painfully aware that most KakaSaku fic is probably not of such high quality, and most of it will probably make me want to roll my eyes or barf. But it hit a kink for me, today. And it is the first one I've read for this pairing-- the only other one I read had them both as adults. But it hit a nerve. So I browsed some of the reviews and picked out people who wrote intelligent responses, then I trolled their favorites lists. This is usually how I browse Fanfiction.net.

wonderful and strange:

The Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy has this to say about Time Lords:

The Time Lords may or may not have existed. Legend has it that they were the first race to discover time travel. Instead of doing something exciting, like conquering the universe, they stayed on their home planet, wearing elaborate and uncomfortable fashions, and writing treatises about peace, stability and mathematics.

The words "All the world--and time" were used in The Time Traveler's Wife, and I've been googling for like 10 minutes trying to find the origin of that quote. I think it was from a poem, somewhere. I know I've heard it.

So far, the most I could find was that it was the title of an old Star Trek episode. I know it's from something earlier than that.

EDIT: It helps if you get the quote right. :D What I should have been looking for was "world enough, and time", which is in the first line of Andrew Marvell's "To His Coy Mistress":

Had we but World enough, and Time,
This coyness, Lady, were no crime.
We would sit down and think which way
To walk, and pass our long Loves Day.
