Bokurano 4-6

Episode 4

It just occured to me. I think there's another set of children in the other machine. How Lord of the Flies of them.

I counted the dots on the opponent robot's yellow cockpit when the ball was being destroyed, and guess what: 15. I think it's definitely being controlled by another group.

Moves by using up people's lifeforces, huh? Well, that's not quite what my theory was, but I did figure that the next kid would die as well.

So far this is tense, but not as tense as some things. I think the only thing that's keeping me from really feeling horror at the disturbing events here is the fact that we don't know enough about the characters. We know only surface things... we don't love any of them yet, we aren't committed, so it's like watching a bunch of strangers dying. Terrible, but out of reach. Compared to, say Nina's demise on FMA...that was a sudden, brutal and horrific sequence of events that were felt by the audience because we'd just spent several episodes bonding with her character and her relationship to the Elrics, whom the audience also cared about. With these kids... I'm interested in the story but their personalities don't pull at my heartstrings yet.

I hope the little girl escapes it. She didn't sign the contract, after all.

Episode 5

This flying rat sure talks a lot of shit. Mocking this kid about dying a virgin when he's thirteen. And now who is the rat talking to?

Hm... I wonder if one child can seize control of the machine in the middle of a fight? If they switch off, they might be able to stay alive.

Huh. So one of the girls is having an affair with her teacher? In seventh grade? That's sick. Not that this boy Kako is much better. He clearly abuses his mother, verbally and probably physically. Why are these kids talking about sex so much? They're not even in high school yet.

Episode 6 + Preview

Well, I'm officially bored of this plotline. Looks like the next episode will be a continuation, with flashbacks, and that's boring. You can only be shown so much badness before it loses the power to shock you as a viewer. Plus, not EVERY kid can be this messed up... some of them look pretty normal; it's out of character for all of them to have had tortured homelives.

Why has it been all boys until now? I'm betting the lolita girl is the next pilot.
