Saddleback...hmm.... this is the closest I'll ever be to Paris Hilton, I think.

Saddleback Church, which is the church of the author of The Purpose-Driven Life and also the site of last night's dual interviews with Obama and McCain, is in Orange County, California.

According to google maps, it's 2.6 miles from my house.

I can now officially say that I, as a person, was 2.6 miles from those two bigger-than-Paris celebrities, McCain Obama. They were practically on my doorstep!

Actually, I had no idea that Saddleback was famous or that the one pastor/book-evangelist/whatever was right in our area until about last year. My family's only lived in this house for two years. Before last year, Saddleback was "That community college people use" or, in the case of the church itself, "that place where job networking meet-ups are always happening" and so forth. It's a very community-active church.

I haven't watched the interviews. I plan to go make lunch and watch them now.

I've been reading about their rather bankrupt responses to a question re: abortion rights and I'm interested to hear what you think of the whole forum once you've watched it.

Aw man! I heard an interview with that guy on NPR and I started doing cartwheels in my car because the conversation ended up going like this:

NPR guy: So, four years ago, you were really big into being against abortion, etc. How have your views changed since then?
Saddleback dude: I wouldn't say they've changed at all. I definitely still believe everything I believed back then. I like to think they've expanded.
NPR: Oh, really?
Saddleback: Yeah. Like, we care about the baby before it's born, but we also have to think, what happens to the baby after it's born? What about the crack babies? The AIDS babies? What can we do for them?

HALLELUJAH BRAINS CAN BE EXPANDED. *does a dance*
