Shaka's parent vs. buffy update # 5 or something
Recent conversation w/ parents:
(they were quiet and asking good questions during commercials, yay!)
Me: Thanks you guys for being a good sport during my show.
Mom: You mean Buffy?
Me: ...Yeah. (I refer to it as "my show"... I think becaus I'm still partially afraid of the title)
Mom: Well, you've had us watch enough that we're all kind of sucked into now.
Me: *brightens* Really?
Dad: Not me really.
Mom: Well, I've sort of got some of it now.
Me: *smiling*
Mom: I've even watched a couple of episodes without you.
Me: I don't believe you.
...
...
Me: Ok, maybe I believe you. (She has before stated that she liked Spike... who was hot tonight, btw! Also not, but that's really old flashbacks for you)
Me: *grin* See, I knew I can't get you into all my obsessions (referring to my mothers hate of everything Farscape), but maybe I can get you into one.
Mom: Mostly it's because I can see an end in sight. If I knew I'd have to keep watching the same drivel over and over, I probably wouldn't. But I can see it all building to something, so I'm kinda interested.
Me: It's different drivel each time. That's why I like it.
*bounces off to room happily*
First let me say it: WUFFY 'SHIP IS SO DEAD!
When Spike bit Wood, my mom was all "What?!" and at the same time I was all "No, they can't do that!"
Mom: That doesn't make any sense!
Me: I know, I dont' get it, this is demented!
Dad C'mon, you've got to remember he's a vampire.
Me: But that's disregarding like 3 seasons of character...nnnnnstuff!
**collective pause to grimace at Ozbournes soda commercial**
Dad:Did he kill him?
Me: I don't know, I haven't seen this! I bet he just bit him to scare him.
Dad: No, they let him out.
Me: Well yeah, but he has a soul.
Dad: I mean the let him out, and so he's killing.
Mom: That doesn't make any sense though.
Me: It doesn't. He spent the whole year up until about a month ago all psycho-depressed because of a century of killing, he wouldn't jsut start doing it now.
Dad: The trigger is--
Mom: It's not working anymore.
Dad: No, it's there. They let him out.
Me: oh. oh. you mean by playing the song, he thought he was ok but he wasn't, and now he's still caught in it.
Dad: Yes.
Mom: Hn.
Me: Maybe, that's reasonable. I don't know.
**Spikey goodness leaves and has passing chat with Buffy**
Me: Hey, I was right!
Dad: So will he turn into a vampire now?
Me: No, they have to kill you and make you drink their blod first. He's not dead.
Dad: So they can't just bite you and make you one?
Me: No, you have to die first and have the blood. It's like Anne Rice that way. I think.
Dad: Will he now--
Me:Wait, quiet! Dialogue!
Such was the night.
Now, onto the regualr opinions:
Loved flashback to 77!Spike. The rain kicked ass. Rain fights always kick ass. Why is that?
OOh! Look at how the rain flows down his cheekbones as he grins his vampyre grin!
Liked the actress for Spike's mother. They gave her good lines.
HA! They'd never have a conversation that incestuous on pitiful crap like Charmed.
Heh. Drusilla being surprised that he wanted to bring his mom was great. She actually looked sane for a moment... I guess the thought of Spike!Sex with mommy watching was a little too much to take in and stay properly crazy.
I liked his flashback. That actually works well as a ret-con, and it kind of goes with how a lot of fanficiton writers guessed his relationship with his mother to be. It makes sense that he would try to turn her to heal her too-- it's ironic that all the fan speculation that he loved his family and wouldn't kill them like Angelus because he was a sap were wrong, and yet not, because he killed his mother because he was a sap. Can't wait for all the fic to come out of this one.
Hated his wig. The other one was better. Lighter and shorter. Why was this so long?
Loved Wood's sanctuary room. Actually is a pretty bright idea, for living on a Hellmouth town. Loved seeing him get beaten up more. Not because I had it against him, but because Spike looked HELLA hot doing so. Almost better than he has all year in that one fight.
Favorite line: "I turned my mother into a vampire. Yeah, so we could be together forever. She said some nasty bits to me after I did that."
Mom & I both laughed out loud at that. Wood's "huh?" look was great.
Ha! I knew Giles was going to regret doing this. I almost feel sorry for him. But then, this is what-- the third time he's seriously betrayed Buffy's trust and taken matters into his own hands. Count 'em: Watcher's Council. Ben. And now, Spike. He tells her to act on her judgement and grow up yet he still can't trust her grown up judgement, out of resenment of Spike. I feel bad for Giles, cause I like Giles, but I was going "Yeah, Buffy! Tell him!" in my head, because Buffy's assertiveness against the BigBadAdults always appeals to my inner girl!power. And, he deserved it. He'll have to work to get some of that trust back-- not because he would ahve harmed Spike, but because he knows Buffy cares about Spike and has verbally said that he is her business and her responsibility.
Poor Wood, all injured. Wasn't the big score on Spike's cheek unfairly placed so as to actually look attractive? I was going "YAY Buffy!" during that conversation too. Both for her determination, and her compassion. Actually, I did a lot of mental Buffy-cheering this episode. I have liked her this season.
I'm glad Wood vengeance didn't get him killed. I knew a confrontation had to happen, but I'm glad that it hasn't cost him his life yet. His tragic character flaw, thankfully for his sake, wasn't a fatal tragic character flaw.
...
Dude, UPN's stpid promo department. You'd think this was the SpikeSexShow or something.
Yeah, ok. Shut up.
Full opinion? Grade is A. One of my favorite episodes this season. The fight scenes were much improved this time, with better direction. And it had a very well-written dialogue.
