I wrote this 3 years ago, when I was 16. I still think it's one of the best I've done.

"A Friend First and Last"

Take me in
take me way
Will I never see you again?
way out here
with the light in my eyes
You promised to wait for me
Things change; now I wait for you
My eyes are bright with your sight
I run and we catch each other
just like we always have

Take me in
take us both away
I’ll always find you again
Leave the world to tend itself
we never needed them
You take my hand
and we turn to face the sky
just like we always have

Your fingers lace through mine
binding and forever
Our smiles catch each other
and everything is back to before

Take me in
take you away
We’ll never stand apart
We’ll never end up alone
We’ll never fall in the distance
We’ll never be the same

You fight my battles
and I’ll fight yours
We’ll win each other’s smiles
as our laughter fills the doors and halls and rooms
You help me up—
I’ll sing you to sleep
Arm in arm we march
just like we always have

Take me in
take the glass away
I see your grin behind the window
and your eyes steal color from the sky
I’ll laugh at the rain
if you promise to dance to it
A raindrop for each of us

Take me in under the roof
take the water from my eyes and hair
You waited for me after all
A smile apiece, we watch the train come in
just like we always have
