Scryed ep#5 - God damn, I so could have written this show to be better than this.
Ok, this show is stupid.
I mean, the basic concept is cool, and some of the characters are cool, but the plots are just... really poorly written. And a lot of stupid...stuff...happens.
It's kind of sad actually, because you have the possibility for some really interesting characters. But the stupidity of the philosophies and the overall setting of the world that all the characters inhabit just drives me crazy. It's completely unrealistic and doesn't even fail to make sesnse in a cool way. It fails to make sense in a stupid way.
I think I'm going to watch more of it, mostly because I kind of like all the lost area characters, like Kazuma and Kinishima. But Kyoruh is boring as all hell and I just hope he, like, disappears or something. Soon.
Mostly though, I wish that whoever orginally sat down and thought out the concept for the world-setting of this series had thought it out a little more thoroughly than they apparently did.
For example, the concept of the abandoned, poverty-stricken land versus the single city that's walled in is interesting, especially when it's an island and the mainland is totally different from both. However, this HOLY stuff is beyond stupid. No military organization could be run in that fashion. No military organizations in history are EVER run that way. Because it wouldn't last all of three weeks. And the politics of the whole world they've set up are stupid too-- things just don't work add up that way.
Also, characters have this annoying habit of not seeing what's right in front of their faces. Not because it's supposed to be a secret only the audience knows, but because the writing is just that bad. Like here in episode 5. The HOLY soldier dude uses his glowy magic spheres to take over the bodies of his own people to attack and capture Kazuma. That's underhanded to the extreme, but I can kind of see it and it might have worked. Except later when they fall unconscious, the other HOLY guys arrive all assume Kazuma did it. Even the woman Mimori, who is presented as a conscience for the HOLY members, and was WATCHING the entire thing, totally accepts this. The scene is presented so that the audience comes to the same conclusion. WHICH IS STUPID! Because anyone with an eyeball and a 1/4 of a brain would be able to point out that-
"Hey, the bodies of all these dudes lying around is from YOUR OWN guy, not this guy. And since all of you know his power and work with him and freakin' ASSIGNED him this, there's absolutely no possible reason that you wouldn't know he did it. This is stupid!"
I can only hope it gets better. Until then I'll enjoy my One Piece manga. Now there's something enjoyable.
