'Sleeper'

Quote of the Ep: "Soulless Spike would have had me upside down and halfway to Happyland by now." ~Anya

Ok, so... not bad. Lots of yummy Spike, a funny-as-hell Spike/Anya scene, an understandng, rational, and compassionate Buffy, a blatant rip off of a classic black & white political thriller... call me one un-depressed noodle.

Leaving all the Spike stuff alone for a sec--except to say that I'm glad I was unspoiled, cause I liked it, and that I'm still kind of confused as to what the hell was going on--- I liked Buffy so much here. I feel like, FINALLY I can like the hero of this show again. FINALLY she's acting like a kind, rational, honest person. She's likeable again. And I loved "Sallow, but in a hottie kind of way." (paraphrasing)

And I liked the bouncer outside the club. He's a uber-hottie too and I want him.

Nice that Willow's beg so clear and level-headed, and Xander too. Careful, any more of this honesty and maturity among the Scoobies, and M.E. might have me thinking I'm actually looking at adults.

Clearly, though, Dawn's not included, as she is outwardly agreeing with Willow, but inwardly believes it was Joyce.

And HAH! I told ya all that it wasn't really Joyce. Granted, we have no more solid proof on that than we did last week, but Willow, "strongest Wicca in the Western Hemisphere" and group brain, agrees with me!

And the promo-- what was up with that? Unspoiled, but... it wasn't very well cut, in my opinion. I mean, it looked like the left-overs of this episode, actually. Spike cold turkey? Uh-- hello it's not like he can stop drinking blood permanently, and it's not an addiction, no more than it ever was, or that it is for Angel. And if he stops, then he'll be too weak to be of any use as a Scooby anyway. Still, the Spike/Buffy fight looked fun. Got one tonight, and in BY and we'll get one next week... looks like fun.

Speaking of S/B fights... I liked the one tonight. It had the same dark chemistry that the Smashed fight did--- that's what I love about this ship; those two are hot whether they're punching or kissing. And it was better than the second half of season 6, because there weren't really any fights after Smashed, just rough sex and Buffy beating an unresisting Spike.

Right now, the stuff between them is more like it was back in season 5, or early season 6. And I'm glad, because the mutual hurt/pity party of last year was ather exhausting after a while. This is better, and more honest.

Heh. My dad was right-- something's playing all the SG in a "ghost conspiracy." I'm surprised they let it out this quickly, though.

They've let out a lot of things fairly early on in the season--- the soul, the danger of Spike's crazyness, the nature of the big bad, resolution of Anya's character paradox, somewhat closure on the X/A front, closure on Hallie, the return of Willow....

Frankly, I'm wondering what there will be left for the other 15 episodes to talk about. Will it all be devoted to the Big Bad? On an epic scale, maybe? Like, Season Noir sort of thing? That'd be-- well, that'd be just swell, acutally. And new for the show.

Still, back on the B/S thing, kudos to Buffy for being willing to trust Spike... though the cynic in me whispers that maybe it wasn't *Spike* she was trusting, but the soul-- as in she's so sure about Angel's soul making him *good*, that she has to believe Spike's soul is the same thing. But whatever the reason, I'm glad for it. She used to be such a nice girl, and its a little sad that I find her being nice again to be weird. But, not displeasing, or unwelcome.

That scene where buffy confronts Spike about the killings--- oh, do I have to watch that again for analyzation. I was pleased with it though. Even if it swas a little too angel-like for my tastes... it was an improvement, as he didn't cower under Buffy's pointing finger quite so easily. He stood up for himself, and for his own choices (really makes you feel sorry for the guy now we know that they weren't his choices after all, doesn't it?). And I'm so pleased that they clarified the difference between Spike being forced under the chip's control, versus choosing the soul of his own will. Good.

Aimee Mann was humorous. That was the first time I remember that a guest band has been *involved* in what's going on-- it was funny too, that they all stopped and stared a second. A nice moment for Sunnydale, the town, as a character in the series (which it always has been, in a way).

Now I'm glad my teacher had us watch The Manchurian Candidate in Government last year... I feel spiffy and cool cause I get the title, and the whole song thing. Though I was kinda hopin' the MMBB!Spike would throw out a line like, "Neat trick, eh? Got it from a movie."

And that's that. I can't wait for the fanfic that comes from this... all those Spuffy fluff fics about Spike living with Dawn/Buffy to be taken care of-- hey, what'd'ya know! And I thought Xander's was gonna be the closest we got to that.

:snicker: Man, the Spike/Anya thing was funny. I just love Anya, period. I mean, I was feelin' the Dawn lurve, but now the Anya luuuuurve has come back full force. She's so amusing. Actually getting upset that Spike wasn't taking to her false advances. She seemed to press even more when he backed up, just for that reason. And shy Spike was adorable, all William-like and jumping backward when Anya mentioned sex.

That thing, at the end, with Giles? Bloody low of them, to tease us like that. It means more giles next ep, though! YAY!
