Monster, episode 15
"Be My Baby"? His personal choice for theme music is Be My Baby?
That's it--without question Monster wins for best use of totally inappropriate theme music by a villain undre really freaky circumstances.
This series has a really subversive style that I adore.
Have I mentioned that I love how cool and competent Nina is? She's a wonderful contrast to Eva. Both women are powerful female characters, but in such radically different ways. Eva is a border-line raving obsessive bitch who I almost feel sorry for until she proves that there's always another step lower she can go.
Nina, in contrast, appears to be a competetant, resourceful, decent woman. She's fundamentally good at heart like Tenma, but like Tenma has revealed already great reserves of strength in the face of adversity. In episode 6 when that guy on the roof attacked her, she was able to defend herself and stay calm under pressure. And since striking out on her own, she's gone rapidly from young, naive college student to a woman who can successfully impersonate a prostitute for days just to work her way into a meeting with a major crime boss... just for information.
You know what would be really cool? If Nina and Johann ended up being like Valentine and Peter Wiggin, from the book Ender's Game. Two equally smart siblings who hate each other, but who end up working together in a plan to take over the world at 12 years old. In fact, Johann reminds me a lot of Peter Wiggin. I guess that would make Tenma his Ender?
