According to animenewsnetwork.com, Fruits Basket volume 10 has now come in at number 70 on the top 100 bestselling book list... beating the previous graphic novel record of number 71 for volume 9.

I find it wonderful and strange that Fruits Basket is the top manga in American. Wonderful, because the series is wonderful, and strange... because I keep thinking of it as this unknown rare thing that not enough people understand and appreciate. When really, it's crazy popular according to the numbers.

Huh. Think of it... ALL those Shigure/Ayame/Hatori OT3 fans out there. All those female readers in love with Kyo. All those people who really wanna learn the answer to that so very important question:

"How did the Sohmas get to be so fucked up?"

Most of all I find it fascinating that the best-selling manga doesn't really have martial arts or wizardry magic or swashbuckling adventure. There are some supernatural elements below the surface, but they so rarely manifest in plot and events that it practically doesn't even count as being there after a while.

Damn I wish there were more anime episodes. I really do.

If only to have that whole Shigure/Rin conversation in big, animated color.
