I'm the same way concerning ghost stories vs straight out horror. Remember the show Tales from the Crypt? I loved, no devoured, every epi until they did a haunted house episode that made me leave my house in the middle of it. I spent four hours at Waffle House to be somewhere brightly lit and I still get freaked out thinking about it.

But The Ring didn't get me. I think because a television/vcr is part of it... in my mind these additions to the mythos or whatever make it more scif than ghost.
