New layout

I updated my journal layout. Unfortunately, I don't know how to use layers to change the coloring. So it's grey for now.

All the text, the quotes, and the titles come from The Jungle Book, one of my favorite novels as a kid.

Quote:

I will go out until the day, until the morning break,
Out to the winds’ untainted kiss, the waters’ clean caress:
I will forget my ankle-ring, and snap my picket-stake.
I will revisit my lost loves, and playmates masterless!

*applauds layout and theme, while mumbling something about never reading The Jungle Book*

and oh, that season 3 fic you recommended me? It's having me doubting that I even want to watch season 3, except maybe if the author's working for Nick and supervising the storyline. ...I mean, it really can't be more perfect in tying all the threads together.

My internet name comes indirectly from The Jungle Book. You really should read it-- and get the unabridged version, which has several stories besides thyat of Mowgli and the wolf pack, including two of my favorites, Rikki Tikki Tavi and The White Seal. My paperback version is dog-eared and bent up after multiple readings. I didn't read a lot of classic novels when I was young, mostly fantasy or science fiction, but The Jungle Book was one of the few stand-outs that I did get very attached to. They're adventurous and interesting, but not always happy. I love the songs/poems that introduce each story, and the quotes on my layout are all from those.

I know what you mean about the fic! It's pretty good-- one of the smoothest I've read of Avatar fanfic. It's right in line with the series-- not as pretty or poetic as some fanfics, but very much like a book version of the show, with strong action scenes and consistant characterization. It's makes a very plausible case for Zuko turning without making him out of character, and the execution is very good. Its handling of ships is what I want and hope for in season 3--- hinty, and strongly grounded, without having to be mushy.

As for watching season 3... After two seasons, especially the season 2 finale, my heart has won over my skepticism and I finally have allowed myself to completely trust the writers. I hate letting go of my skepticism, but they've earned my trust. I give in, I trust them! I trust that they will be interesting and effective, even if it's not precisely what I expected. If anything, season 2 did a much better job of surprising me than season 1 did. There's certain things about the show's premise that are inescapably predictable, but they've really worked within that premise to surprise and delight us. So I'll be watching season 3.

Although I probably won't see it until Septemberish, seeing as I'll be on spike in the Gulf Coast for about 5-6 months. THe only good thing is that if they stretch out season 3 as crazy-long as they stretched season 2, it should still be airing by then.
