new item for season 7 wishlist

Something I've been missing lately in BtVS: Spike's fighting skills.

Yeah, we've seen him survive more torture than anyone-friggin-else on the whole show. We know he's tough.

But what happened to seeing him fight? We've haven't had a great Spike fight since the Ring of Amara thing in season 4... it seems mostly he throw one or two punches, saves Buffy or Xander's butt, and then the fight's over. The Tabula Rasa fight with the vamps was ok, and the Dead Things fight was kinda cool, and the Sleeper fight on the catwalk was ok, but Spike used to be really GOOD. He killed two slayers hand-to-hand, and Buffy was warned about how dangerous he was. And he survived nearly every fight with Buffy, who was also very very good--and though she could take him now, I'm sure, he had a good chance of killing Buffy before he got chipped. He nearly did in School Hard. He could win against Drusilla and he could hold his own against Angel.

And yet, it's seemed like, since season six, his fighting has actually gotten worse. Or, he spends so much time getting beaten up, it's hard to tell.

I'd like to see just a one-on-one fight between Spike and a demon, in which he goes all out, and beats the crap out of the other guy. I'd like to see some fancy moves and clever camera work. I'd like to see something that says "Spike's a bloody good fighter, remember?"

We sort of had that with the season 6 finale, in the cave in Africa. But those fights were also heavily cut, and done in the dark, with us not really getting to se a whole lot of fist & fangs. In FFL Spike talks about seeking out the Slayers for the challenge of the fight, the fun of it.

I want to see Spike have some really good fun beating something up.

Yeah we all miss Spike the fighter! The guy used to have the moves! But now I am wondering if falling in love hasn't made him go all soft? Has getting a soul meant he's lost the killer instinct! Say it isn't so Joss!

Perhaps the secret message in BtVS is: beware falling in love...it nicks all your combat skills!

Seriously though, it kind of hard to believe this is the same Vamp who killed two slayers! Still, plenty of time in this series for a decent dust up isn't there? I'll cross my fingers!

No worries, it's why I kept it vague ^_~ As of last Tuesday's eps I've decided ot jump on the spoiler free bandwagon. Grad school is ulcer inducing as it is. I don't need to make myself sick over spoilers as well.

It is one of the things that defines Spike as yummy badass. I agree. The show could definitely use some more Spike Kicking Ass.

Well, there's one half season left--- let's hope for more Fists&Fangs!Spike. :)

More violence! More gore! We want bloodier Spike tv!

They've used his fighting skills as plot device, have you noticed? He can kick ass when it's convenient, or get thrown off a tower by an old mandemon without throwing a punch when it's necessary to the plot. And it really is silly. Boy took down two fuckin' slayers, tell me he can't hold his own against some pissant demon? Pfft.

Yeah, I hear ya. I actually was sold on the Doc thing, as they already established how dangerous he was to some degree by having him alive after Xander killed him. And it was a fast, short fight on a narrow space. But, dude-- he could have killed himself a few Bringers at least, ya know?

My hubby and I have been saying this for a *very* long time!

spike and fighting

There was the fight between Buffy and Spike in - was it Sleeper? - that I remember enjoying. But I am so sick of passive Spike. Rockless Spike in fact.

I thought the Killer in Me was pretty lame frankly. Why are we wasting all this time on Kennedy?

The only one I remember was the brief scene form Never Leave Me. In Sleeper there was a little bit between them, but mostly it was between Buffy & Spike's minions.

Wow. "Spike's minions." Haven't had to write that phrase in a while.
