It's the End of the World As We Know It, and I Feel Fine

Fandoms I put forth for [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon ficathon:

Dr. Suess fandom (The Cat In The Hat, etc.)
Doctor Who - Pete's world / AU
Fruits Basket
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
(always almost happens in canon but never does)
Princess Tutu
Temeraire series by Naomi Novik
Discworld series by Terry Pratchett
Jonathon Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susannah Clarke
Soon I Will Be Invincible by Austin Grossman
ANIMANIACS
Sailor Moon
Cowboy Bebop (solar-system-wide apocalypse, not the kinda-sorta apocalypse that caused everyone to leave Earth in the first place.)
Gargoyles
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Kill Bill
Spirited Away
How I Met Your Mother
Dollhouse
Blood Ties
Fight Club (predicted by canon)
Iron Man (movieverse)
Pride And Prejudice (movie or book)
Once Upon A Time In Mexico
A Nightmare Before Christmas

The bolded choices are the ones I really, really would love to read in fanfic.

Can't say the idea behind the comm appeals to me; Apocalypses generally entail character death, and such grim situations rarely sit well with me in 'fic (or canon, for that matter...). That said, I confess to being quite intrigued to seeing the results for any of these fandoms, not the least of which ones like Dr. Seuss fandom where you have to wonder what exactly would CAUSE an Apocalypse.

The basic premise started because there was a ficathon a few years ago where everyone submitted stories from various fandoms based on all the disaster movies people love--triggered by the movie The Day After Tomorrow. That became a comm and regular ficathon. It's not necessarily that many characters have to die... a lot of fics have the main cast intact, but suddenly living in an apocalyptic world. It's addictive...there's tons of good fics from 2008 up there that you should check out.
