Gratuoitous Image Posting --sorry for spamming LJ tonight

Ever since I saw Cowboy Bebop movie again and someone (was it you, [livejournal.com profile] automatedalice?) pointed it out to me, I've come to accept the truth:

similar hotness, truly

Or Spike Spiegel was drawn so that someday Adrian Brody might play him. One of the two.

I've not seen a lot of anime (I don't even know where to start...) but damn that is remarkable! Plus Brody is such a hottie. Been lusting for him since Summer of Sam

Oh, Cowboy Bebop is a great place to start. One of the best examples of anime out in English, really. Also, Trigun. Trigun very very good.

Do you get the Cartoon Network? Trigun is playing at 12:00m (keeps interfering with my Farscape reruns!), and I think Bebop is on at 1, or 1:30am.

but damn that is remarkable!

Isn't it? I doubt it'll happen anytime soon, but damn what food for fantasy. :P

What is the thing with this Spike character? Cowboy Bebop? Is that a movie?

And what is The Fray? Can anyone tell me? :)

I think Fray is the name of a Slayer in the comic books set 400 years in the future. But I've never read them.

Cowboy Bebop is the name of a 26-episode animated TV show made in Japan, about a group of bounty hunters who travel in a spaceship. The short running series Firefly actually resembled a lot of the overall plot of Cowboy Bebop, from the lack of aliens to the dubious jobs to the mobster subplots. The three main characters are Spike Spiegel and Jet, who have been working together for a while as bounty hunters, and Faye Valentine who joins them in episode 3. Slightly more "main" though is Spike, as his backstory is eventually the catalyst for the finale.

There is a movie that was just released in American theaters that was set around episode 22, which is just before the final story arc happens, and so seems to take place withing the show. Luckily, the company that dubbed the english track was able to get the same actors as were used to create the English track for the series. I saw the movie last week. It was very good.

That sounds really cool. I wonder if I can find the show to watch on video or something. I love the way anime men are drawn. Their hair is always so sexy, and their pointy chins :)

It's on VHS and DVD, all episodes. You can buy it in video stores in the mall usually, or some electronics places that sell movies, where you'd buy videos. But anime is expensive. It's easier just to watch it on the Cartoon Network, if you get cable.

So excited! Just popped into the Rogers Video next door to my apartment and they have all the eps on DVD!

So when whoever has them brings them back, I'll be able to check it out.

Damn, your rental place has them? You're so lucky. The Hollywood Video near my house doesn't have any new anime, and I've watched all the ones they already have. Much of which is realy old stuff. CB was only made in '99 I think. I still haven't seen the last 3 episodes.

Oh yes, he is.

Did you ever see "Liberty Heights" with Adrien Brody? If not, worth the time. Funny, quirky, very Neil Simon-ish family and growing up drama/comedy.

<(was it you, automatedalice?)>

yes, it was me. ;) thank you for doing this, since i've been too lazy to post the two pics that i found. i was going to build a stupid icon or something. but yes, brody was born for it. ;) not that i'm all gung-ho for live-action bebop or anything, but brody beats edward norton (my previous choice) by a mile. it's those eybrows.

Edawrd Norton would have been able to act it (cause he's just too fucking good at acting), but he doesn't really look as close to the part as Brody does. Plus, look at those matching little smiles! They're exactly the same mouth.

see, my dream was some sort of painful arthouse straight to hell / bladerunner hybrid with edward norton & chloe sevigny as spike & julia. but adrien brody & chloe sevigny are looking better.

god i'm a sap.

you mean this person?

Don't know her, but she's pretty. I'd have to think carefully about Faye.
