Mikey got with Sharon, Sharon got Sheriee
She was sharin' Sharon's outlook on the topic of disease
Mikey had a facial scar and Bobby was a racist
They were all in love dying and they were doin' it in Texas
Tommy played piano like a kid out in the rain
Then he lost his leg in Dallas he was dancin' with a train
They were all in love with dying and they were drinkin' from a fountain
That was pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain
I don't mind the sun sometimes the images it shows
I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes
Cinnamon and sugary and softly spoken lies
You never know just how you look through other people's eyes
Some will die in hot pursuit and fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit while sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life and drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like and avalanche coming down the mountain
Another Mikey took a knife while arguing in traffic
Flipper died a natural death he caught a nasty virus
Then there was the ever-present football player rapist
They were all in love dying and they were doin' it in Texas
Holly caught a bullet but it only hit his leg
While it should have been a better shot he got him in the head
They were all in love with dying and they were drinkin' from a fountain
That was pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain
I don't mind the sun sometimes the images it shows
I can taste you on my lips and smell you in my clothes

Though not where I got these, there is an intriguing site about misheard lyrics here.

My favorite:
Tommy played piano like a kid out in the rain
Then he lost his leg in Dallas he was dancin' with a train
I think that's a great description, both of the piano and of how he lost his leg.

It's almost like rap, this way with language and rhythm without the song actually being rap...

German hip hop, however, is fairly cool, as is European rap in general-- often, it's common themes-- love, life, everyday trouble, world peace--, seeing as it would be ridiculous to have white middle class boys rap about oppression and all that. Of course, there's some stuff out from the outskirts of Frankfurt, Mannheim, Hamburg, featuring Germans of a different background. But still, they tend to focus more on real life and less on posturing.
Re:
There is a semi-rap song that I really liked called it "It Don't Matter (And I Don't Care)" by Rehab. I like some of the rap-rock stuff such as Linkin Park.
I really like the Beastie Boys. Some of that has violence and objectification of women, but not nearly as offensively to me as most rap I've heard. Also they seem more humorus (like early Eminem) than crude.
I dunno... there's some of the "softer" that I don't mind... but that's probably why it's called softer.

As you indicate, if they don't take themselves too seriously and are clever and fun, chances are that I like 'em too.
Beastie Boys? LOL. My friends at home like 'em-- my best friend's sister was the drummer of this band, and they played a lot of BB. I still know doing the fun groupie thing and screaming "Drummer Solo!!!" at back of the crowd and at the top of my lungs.
And I still know the lyrics to "No Sleep 'til Brooklyn". & ;-)
Re:
Me too. And I live nearly as far away from Brooklyn as you do.

And babe, San José is a bit closer still.
