WHEEE!!!

My most favorite EVER episode of Trigun is on right now, episode 24! The big, evil, episode "Sin" where Legato causes Vash "eternal pain and suffering." Literally.

That is indeed an excellent episode--the whole last DVD is gold--but I admit I'm partial to Live Through, what with the screaming and the shippiness and all.

The screaming is quite good. And the cliff scene. And the scene when he leaves, and Meryl's by the door. I was pleased by how restrained that scene was. In fact, both Meryl/Vash and Milly/Wolfwood ships were handled with a lot of restraint and subtlelty, for anime.

But nothing, to me, beats the scene at the end of Sin. Legato plays Vash royally, and not only does Vash shoot him-- he executes him. Meanwhile we have the two voices of Wolfwood and Rem warring in his head... and for once he doesn't choose Rem. He gives up, and goes Wolfwood's way. I love this scene because to me it seemed the first of the two most pivotal scenes in the whole show for Vash's character-- where he chooses to kill, and then in Live Through when he chooses to forgive himself for it.

That's a very good point--the execution thing. Adds another layer of pain to it. I like pain.

God, I am such a Vash-angst whore. I almost feel kind of bad for enjoying his suffering. But then I remember he's not real, and I feel better.

The whole show is about causing Vash pain. And now I'm a girl who just loves shows where the heros are caused enormous pain. We're all angst-whores. Buffy the Vampire Slayer did to me, and things like Trigun just add to it. Pain is pretty when it happens to bishonen.
