I think I must be the only person on the internet who doesn't prefer the Rufus Wainwright version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. That's the one I always see being used on vids, and personal CD mixes. And that's a shame.

It's an ok one, but honestly, there are better versions. Cohen's original is of course good, but Jeff Buckley's is the best of all the 5 or so versions I've heard to date. Much better than Wainwright's cover.

Nah.

But, see default icon.

I'm a Cohen original all the way, though I'm torn between the studio version, and the version on Cohen Live. I think the best cover of it is John Cale's.

And I think the best Cohen cover ever is the hilariously drunken version of Tower of Song by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. The weird Jean-Louis Murat version of Avalanche (translated into French) also works well for me.

I haven't heard John Cale's. Do you have it on MP3?

I ended up watching a Farscape vid to the John Cale version, and I have to say...nope. The Jeff Buckley version is just prettier.

i love the buckley too. cohen is good, but buckley's falsetto lends it this loveliness that cohen just doesn't have.
