lookeee! icon and thoughts regarding the detestable "spuffy" ::snicker::

I made a pretty (i think) S/B icon using the the translated lyrics from the second season opening of Naruto. Which is a weird crossover, but hey-- they were pretty and it works. The last pic is one of my favorite Spike images ever. They're all from the second to last ep of BTVS.
Anyway, it's shareable for anyone who wants it. :smiles:

And now onto the meat of my post...

It seems a few people whose journals/websites I've read recently have decided to reject the fan relationship term "Spuffy." They then proceed to cite reasonable and meticulously thought-out complaints (the primary one being "It's just stupid.") and proclaim that they have decided not to use said term any longer. They say it sounds demeaning and silly, and makes fun of a very. serious. and. respectable. canon. ship.

I agree completely. Excellent decision. I always liked the term Spiffy better anyway.

Well, personally, I think that *all* squished together ship names are rather silly. Spander, Spuffy, Spillow, what have you - I dislike them all the same amount.

Well, to be honest, "spander" always sounded like some variety of fish to me, and "spillow" or "spwillow" always sounded like babytalk... Bangel makes me think of bagels (heehee), and Spuffy makes me think of spiffy-clean marshmellows (clean and puffy ones.) Spred is badly made peanutbutter (is gross when it gets in your hair) and Spawn... actually, I always thought Spawn was weirdly appropriate, what with the whole vampyre thing. Spaith sounds like either something that grows in clumps under your sink or some kind of gardening tool. Spangel sounds christmas-y, which is totally the wrong thing to bring to mind for Spike/Angel.

I didn't really like Spuffy when everyone started using it rather than S/B or B/S. But I kinda got accustomed to it.

What's really funny is that before people started using "spuffy," I used to SAY it accidentally. Like, instead of saying "Buffy and Spike" I'd say "Spuffy and Bike." Because apparently I've never learned to talk properly. *g*

I just don't get the whole smushed names for ships, though. I mean, I guess people are trying to be cute? Maybe? Who the hell knows.
