hello from looserville, population: present

popularity contests suck.
popularity contests started by nice people with good intentions suck even more, because if you complain that it's a popularity contest and thus sucks, you get frowned on and assumed to be bitter that you haven't been picked yet and your obvious attack of such a nice person's pure intentions means you clearly don't deserve to be anyway.
in conclusion?
popularity contests suck.

Oh, honey. I know. It was a lovely idea, but it's still a popularity contest, and those are guaranteed to give me wicked junior high school flashbacks. I read about four pages, felt myself regressing, and stopped reading. Now I can just be aware that on an LJ entry somewhere, nice people with good intentions are creating positive energy, and that's a good thing but I don't gotta look.

I for one am very, very, very glad I Friended you.

In all seriousness, and I swear I am not saying this to be nice because the only reason I have not made this exact same post is I don't want someone to go nominate me to make me feel better, I was going to rec you. I was going to say I often read the posts on my friends page without checking whose post I'm reading, and every day there's one I find I particularly interesting or relevant and I look to see who it is, and it's you.

But before I could do that I had to read through pages and pages of recs of people who were never ever me and I got too upset to play. But you were really the first name that came to my mind when I saw the post.

Also, even if I had been picked, and gone in and made my nomination, it would still be a popularity contest and this is the first time I've really seen that so clearly on LJ -- when other people have left claiming they didn't like the popularity-contestness of it, I thought they were exaggerating. Not that this makes me want to leave LJ, but, well -- popularity contests suck.

Yeah, I agree. Nice idea, but pretty much doomed to badness. I didn't post anything, just because I think *everyone* on my friends list is worth reading, which is why they're on my friends list!
