(no subject)

Watched an adorable Fruits Basket vid to Weird Al's "My Baby's In Love With Eddie Vedder" with Yuki as the brooding rockstar and Kyo as the frustrated boyfriend who can't compete. It was amusing, especially since I've never heard that song before.

I've heard remarkably few Weird Al songs, actually. I heard the Oreos one, and the Star Wars one that gacked from "American Pie", and the really fast one about horoscopes, and the one about Jerry Springer that was gacked from Barenaked Ladies' "One Week." But that's it I think.

Does anyone have any favorite Weird Al recs? Anything they want to point me to?

I've always been rather fond of his "Polka Power," which is on the same album as "The Saga Begins" (the Star Wars one) and the Jerry Springer one. The album is called "Runs With Scissors." Anyway, "Polka Power" is basically his take on several different popular songs, all set to a fast polka beat.

He's got a bunch of oldies, of course. "Like A Surgeon" (ala Madonna's "Like A Virgin"), "Another One Rides the Bus" (ala Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust"), "Smells Like Nirvana" (which always makes me giggle), and "I Lost On Jeopardy" (perhaps my favorite Weird Al song of all time, ala the 80s song "Our Love's In Jeopardy" ... by ... uh ... the Greg Kihn Band, I think).

Cool! I don't think I've heard any of those. I'll keep an ear out.

I have a soft spot for "Couch Potato", based on Eminem's "Lose Yourself."

"Look, if you had one shot
To sit on your lazy butt
And watch all the TV you ever wanted
'Till your brain turned to mush
Would you go for it
Or just let it slip?"

I'd go for it. I'd so go for it. Especially if it was all the anime I could ever want.

I saw Weird Al in concert a couple weeks ago down in Atlanta and he played all of thoes songs the people mentioned.

Mmm, one that hasn't been mentioned yet is Trigger Happy, based on a Beach Boys song. We haven't figured out which yet. Its violent, but amusng. :)
