Okay, I love when scifi/fantasy/action anime and game stuff get made into movies. Don't get me wrong on that.
But for the love of my wallet, couldn't they have picked something better than TEKKEN????

The anime wasn't exactly brilliant so I fail to see what can be achieved with a bigger budget (unless it's the same film only with prettier colours and louder music).
Let's face it though, if they ARE going to take a beat-em-up and turn it into a film, why not Soul Calibur II?
I'll admit that the thought of impressive sword fights would sell ME tickets.
Don't get me wrong, I like Tekken and hope one day to beat my boyfriend at the game...but it is NOT a good movie pitch.

Although, I'm not fond of tournament games being made into movies anyway. Mortal Kombat, for example.
If they really wanted to do a good job, they'd take the story concepts of several of these-- Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Soul Caliber, Tekken, etc etc etc, and draw on all of them as influences to write an original or mostly-original story. I mean, the premise of a battle tournament could make a very cool movie, but if taken directly from a game, it's going to *feel* like a game, and likely have sucky game plots. Besides, who really cares about the plot in a fighting game? It's just background. But for a movie, the plot has to be more than background, it has to be central. So better to just start from the most basic idea of all those games and work through it that way.
Go to a screenwriter and say "Write me a movie about a martial arts battle tournament, with exotic characters, a dash of the supernatural, and seriously cool and intelligent fights."

Of course there is Live Action Sailor Moon, haha, that cracked me up, have you watched it yet?

No. I've seen the costumes though, and I cringe at the thought.
The only cute one was mercury.
