Samurai Champloo # 1

Well, it is very stylish, which I like.

It is also very darkly animated and colored, which I don't like.

It has well done animation-- always a good sign. But I don't like the character designs-- a bad sign.

I am willing to watch the next episode, though. Definitely better at the moment than Saiyuki or Tenjou Tenge was when I tried to watch them.

P.S. Why is it in widescreen?

Och, I heart Champloo. I'm still waiting on episode 11 actually. Glad you watched it.

Yeah, I never got why it was in widescreen. Well, maybe it's because it's airing on a Japanese tv station right now and they might put their shows in widescreen. *shrugs*

So it's up to 11 then. You still like it?

Very much. It just gets funnier and more beautifully animated as you move up in episodes. Not to mention the characters start to fill out a lot more and the whole thing just because twice as interesting.

A lot of people compare it to Cowboy Bebop, but I don't see many similarities between the two. I think SC stands on it's own as one of the better anime's I've seen.

I hope so because so far one of the flaws is that the two men seem to be stock characters. "types" if you will. The tightass and the punk.

Haven't the slightest why it's in widescreen. Actually, I never noticed it. I usually watch everything in widescreen - movies, television shows - so it doesn't register with me any longer.

At least you're giving it a shot. Which is more than I can say for most people!

I didn't notice it until I started to rewatch the opening credits after having watched it once all the way through. Then it just clicked that it was in widescreen.

I'm kind of happy that it is... I prefer widescreen. Symptom of how spoiled I've gotten through DVDs.
