::watches extended Naruto movie trailer::

Oh my gosh.

There's Kakashi!backstory! Backstory of Kakashi!

I don't care if it's half the movie or just a 20 second moment that occurs only once in the entire showing...KAKASHI!BACKSTORY!

And a flashback to kawaii 16-year-old!Kakashi.

I am ridiulously looking forward to this. I can only pray that the good and reliable bootleggers of Japan can pirate this movie and put it out on the net for fansubbers in a timely manner.

Come on, gals, guys. I'm counting on you. Be swift and true!... er... Be swift and illegal!

--
EDIT AFTER 2nd viewing: Huh. The pendant necklace and the Rasengan both appear in this movie, it seems. Which would place this movie very current in the timeline of recently released episodes. Unless it's a different necklace.... there's still the Rasengan though.

--
EDIT AFTER 4th viewing: Kakashi is so still my anime boyfriend. Kabuto keeps trying to knock him out of first place in my heart but Kakashi is still top of the list.

----
EDIT with thoughts spoilery based on episode 97, a bit of manga, and movie trailer:

But wait a minute here, this doesn't make sense. If...Naruto has the Rasengan, which it definitely looks like he does, then how is Sasuke up and jumping around. Sasuke's in the hospital with a broken arm. And for that matter-- KAKASHI IS FRIGGIN UNCONSCIOUS RIGHT NOW. And if I got spoiled correctly against my will by reading fanfiction.net a long time ago, then when Sasuke gets better the first thing he does is run away. Not go on a mission to Snow Country.

Then again, I could have been spoiled incorrectly. I don't really want anyone to correct my misconceptions on this if there are some, as I will eventually see it anyway.

Maybe this movie exists in an unrealistic universe where Sasuke wakes up and doesn't run away, but keeps going on missions, or maybe where Naruto learned the Rasengan without all that petty business about being hunted and chased by Itachi. Kinda like Link & Luigi's bizarro-world where the Third Hokage is still alive but Shikamaru is a chuunin anyway.

I'm like the only person who hasn't seen Naruto. But everyone keeps talking about it. Me thinks it's time I checked it out!

I spent about two hours with [livejournal.com profile] beatgeek on AIM last night squeeeeealing over the "Naruto" movie trailer. "OMG STEAMPUNK! OMG DEMON!FOX!NARUTO! OMG BADASS!SAKURA! OMG SNARKINESS IN THE TRAIN TUNNEL! OMG KAKASHI BACKSTORY!!!!!!"

As far as the spoilers/continuity go, as I can tell, the anime movie must be set in an AU loosely based on but independent from the manga/TV anime universes, like the "Inuyasha" movies were supposed to be (although the TV anime started fucking with that idea when it started bringing in characters from the movies, like FeudalEra!Hojo.

It's going to be FOREVER before we see the "Naruto" movie, though. *wails* The third "Inuyasha" movie came out in Japan in December, but it didn't start showing up in subs until the DVD was released, which was like JUNE. *WAAAAILS* (KAKASHI BACKSTORYYYY! WAAAAAH!!!!)

DUDE, you're shitting me, right? 6 months?! I'll be ancient by then! I'll have grown up and turned into an old woman with 5 cats! 5 cats and no Kakashi backstory!

::cries::

That is okay with me. It allows them freedom but also leaves the canon unmolested.

I only saw the first IY movie, and I hated it so much I haven't bothered with the rest.

You and your cats can move in with me and my cats, all seventeen of which will be named Mister Fluffy. *wails*

Exactly! I like multiple continuities; they can get confusing but they're also nice for creativity reasons. The "Cowboy Bebop" movie is a nice happy *post*-series continuity universe for me in my head, for instance. La la la LA!

I only saw the first IY movie, and I hated it so much I haven't bothered with the rest.

I liked the first "Inuyasha" movie, but it was definitely the worst of the 3 out so far. The second one is adorable, though, with some lovely little character moments and an actual Inuyasha/Kagome kiss scene (which is CANON, DAMMIT, in the anime anyway, since it's this movie from which random characters started showing up in the movie, which means they and everything else in the movie are CANON, DAMMIT. I say this in capitals because I have despaired of ever seeing anything overtly romantickal from Inuyasha/Kagome and especially Sango/Miroku in the manga. *sigh*). Rumiko Takahashi actually kinda pseudo-ripped-off the kiss scene in one of the more recent issues of the manga! *LOL* The third movie is the big action-fighty movie, but it has some kickass Inuyasha/Sesshomaru interaction and flashbacks to Sesshomaru's past with their father, and again some lovely little character moments, with Sesshomaru especially that actually made me cry a little. 'Cause I'm a dork. The movies' animation style still looks bizarre to me, though. I am greatly looking forward to the release of the first 2 movies on DVD in the US later this year nonetheless. :D

And there's a fourth "Inuyasha" movie coming out in Japan this December, but I have no idea if it will be a continuation of the anime--which is ending soon; a continuation of the manga--which is ending a little later but still soon; or if it will be its own continuity set vaguely in The Middle Of The Quest sometime.

I don't know what kind of a wacked out storyline (http://quad9dyne.ibforums.com//index.php?showtopic=5346&view=findpost&p=61449) the fourth movie is going to have, but it's definately not a continuation of either the manga or the anime.

Hee, thanks. Your icon is pretty awesome, too.

Although, it seems that there's a possibility of half-naked Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha (http://quad9dyne.ibforums.com//index.php?showtopic=5346&view=findpost&p=60479), which is enough to sell me on it, at least.

The animation style really put me off, for some reason. But it's good to know they get better story-wise. I know that one of them will appear on Adult Swim later this year.

I say this in capitals because I have despaired of ever seeing anything overtly romantickal from Inuyasha/Kagome and especially Sango/Miroku in the manga.

I thought Miroku and Sango had basically already admitted to loving each other in the manga? Or at least said as much in indirect words.

For some reason I think Kagome and InuYasha are heading to an Escaflowne ending. Which I won't explain if you haven't seen that show yet.

The "Cowboy Bebop" movie is a nice happy *post*-series continuity universe for me in my head, for instance. La la la LA!

::hugs you:: I think so too. But, by the way, when did you watch CB? I thought you gave up on that show after a few episodes.

OH, and you HAVE to watch this video:

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=43321

It made me wibble. I am a wibbly thing. Pay attention especially to how wonderfully the credit sequences are used in the video. The butterfly makes it all so poignant. My new favorite Naruto video.

Yeah, they're pretty much engaged, even. But by nothing overtly romantickal I mean none of them have kissed, dangit. *kicks feet sulkily* I want CANON-SMOOCHIES!

For some reason I think Kagome and InuYasha are heading to an Escaflowne ending. Which I won't explain if you haven't seen that show yet.

I have not, though I plan to eventually. Tell me NOTHING!!!

(Apropos of none of the above, have you read the newest "Inuyasha" manga issue at Ear-Tweak.com? OH. MY. GOD. *cries*)

::hugs you:: I think so too.

*hugs back*

I have a "Buffy" T-shirt that I bought last year at Dragon Con that says in very large orange letters, "SPIKE LIVES!"

I just need to learn to sew so I can embroider on underneath it, "(both of them)".

But, by the way, when did you watch CB? I thought you gave up on that show after a few episodes.

Ummmm, no? And I own the entire series + movie now via bootleg? *G*

The past few months I was just like "LALALA DON'T ASK ME TO WATCH CB I'M NOT GOING TO LALALA" because I *knew* I'd get obsessed and I already had like 3 anime obsessions + school finals at the time. But I gave in over the summer. ^_~

It made me wibble. I am a wibbly thing. Pay attention especially to how wonderfully the credit sequences are used in the video. The butterfly makes it all so poignant. My new favorite Naruto video.

I saw it. I cried. Then I showed it to [livejournal.com profile] beatgeek and SHE cried (well, mostly). Now I am showing it to [livejournal.com profile] riddering to make HER cry. WAAAAAAAH! *hugs all the adorable fierce heartbroken babyninja and sobs*

Do you have any other "Naruto" (or any other anime I've seen, really) video recs? I tried wading through AnimeMusicVideos.com myself but gave up after I realized there were *eighteen* "Naruto" videos to Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life". (I love the song, but...OY.) I depend on you for all my anime-vid and fic-rec needs! You need to start a vid-recs category in your LJ Memories!

I could have sworn like 2 weeks ago... nevermind. Must have been someone else.

I want that t-shirt. Maybe I'll have one made for my next convention.

I have not, though I plan to eventually. Tell me NOTHING!!!

I will be silent then. Except to say that the movie is crap spawned of something more putrid than hell, so stay far away. But the series can do no wrong in my eyes. It's so... good. And it's a love story. A perfect love story.

I saw it. I cried. Then I showed it to beatgeek and SHE cried (well, mostly). Now I am showing it to riddering to make HER cry. WAAAAAAAH! *hugs all the adorable fierce heartbroken babyninja and sobs*

::hugs babyninja too, which is by the way self's new favorite term thank you for donating it::

It made me love Naruto even more. And Sakura too. And even Sasuke a bit, though he was kinda on the "outside" of the perspective in the video.

Babe. Naruto is, like, 1/6 of my favorites list on amv.org. And you know I don't go for less than quality stuff.

Here's the ones off my list. I'm just linking them cause I'm too lazy to type it all out.

So... Since my brother is in Japan, he already saw the Naruto movie in theatres... And got a Sasuke necklace.

For that, I'm going to murder him when he gets home.

Only because he rubbed it in my face that he saw it.

What a bastard. =\

Said it was good, though.
