`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

I was in a mood, ya ken? A jabberwocky mood.

Random thoughts-

Sometimes you just get into moods for poems and stuff. I can recite Shel Silverstein's 'Crocodile Went to the Dentist' word for word.

I can think of 3 different things that had soemthing to do with Jabberwocky off the top of my head:

The Jabberwocky skit on the Muppet Show where Scooter fought it.

The Real Ghostbusters episode where they were wondered what a 'burble' sounded like.

And there was a book by Ed McBain under that title recently.

I think of babies. Inarticulate baby happy noises. Babies burble. Which would sound weird on a monster, but that's what I think it is, and the jabberwocky is certainly allowed to be weird.

The Jabberwocky skit on the Muppet Show where Scooter fought it.

I want to see that! I wonder if it's downloadable...

Did you read this new book?

hit me with the Shel, babyyyyyyy.

I imagine you can download it from somewhere. Its the episode that has Diana Ross in it.

That's the book. I read it, it was good. It's like the 50th book in a cop series. The Frumious Bandersnatch (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0743250346/qid=1093763167/sr=ka-1/ref=pd_ka_1/002-1616498-4358450)

And:

The Crocodile's Toothache

The Crocodile
Went to the dentist
And sat down in the chair,
And the dentist said, "Not tell me, sir,
Why does it hurt and where?"
And the Crocodile said, "I'll tell you the truth,
I have a terrible ache in my tooth,"
And he opened his jaws so wide, so wide,
The the dentist, he climbed right inside,
And the dentist laughed, "Oh isn't this fun?"
As he pulled the teeth out, one by one.
And the Crocodile cried, "You're hurting me so!
Please put down your pliers and let me go."
But the dentist laughed with a Ho Ho Ho,
And he said, "I still have twelve to go-
Oops, that's the wrong one, I confess,
But what's one crocodile's tooth more or less?"
Then suddenly, the jaws went SNAP,
And the dentist was gone, right off the map,
And where he went one could only guess...
To North or South or East or West...
He left no forwarding address.
But what's one dentist, more or less?

I have at times surprised co-workers by exclaiming, "Oh, frabjous day!" when something goes really right...though I did once have someone reply, "Come to my arms, my beamish boy!"

I have not yet said it in conversation, but it's passed through my head more than once and tried to jump out.

though I did once have someone reply, "Come to my arms, my beamish boy!"

Heh. And how did you respond?

When I was in sixth grade I recited that for a speech meet... no wait that year I did The Owl and the Pussy Cat... SEVENTH grade was the year I did The Jabberwocky!

Have you read Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass? I bought a book off Amazon.com that had all of his stories in it, with all the original art work! LOVE it!

I recited it from 10th grade drama class. The only thing I liked doing in that entire year of Drama 1 (because my teacher was the hellbith.)

I haven't read the book yet, but I will at some point.
