Is living in a dorm like going to camp? Because it sounds a lot like going to camp to me.

I mean, it costs hella money, you're living in a fairly small space with a person of the same sex that you don't know very well, and you're far away from the home of your youth, and you have neighbors you can't count on to be quiet and only hope you will learn to like, everybody eats in the same place, everybody showers in the same place, everybody moves in and moves out the same day, everybody is going to group activities (class) that they don't really feel they should have to participate in... and everyone is your age.

It's like camp. But with internet access. And co-ed halls.

I guess you could say that... but some of us live off campus saving money by working out of their own house and driving in to school every day. That takes out the cattle road to class and food and moving and stuff... I never went to camp. I lived in a dorm for a while on a floor with all girls... that was fun... but I cant compare it to the camp experience no...

Overall all I can say is that its better than highschool

Really? That's nice. Because I don't remember high school being all that wonderful. I had an alright time but it was not something I'd ever like to repeat. I remember being bored a lot.

I suppose it depends on the college, but for me the only part of dorm life that has ever felt like camp was orientation. Every day was heavily scheduled with skits and activities, being social was mandatory, and we had no other responsibilities. But once classes started, everyone had different schedules, and that was key. It doesn't feel like camp when you've got the freedom college provides. You get a lot more alone time. Again, I don't know what orientation is like for transfer students (is that right?) at your particular college, but once you get into things, it feels less like camp and more like home.

Also, you say "but with internet access" like it's a small thing. Don't know about the co-ed halls. :)

yep, I'm a transfer student.

I was making light of what in fact is one of my greatest points of relief. I'd die without high-speed internet with which to get anime and all the other tv shows I'll be missing since I won't have cable.

It's a lot like camp, but that really great part of camp where you were no longer missing your family/friends you left behind. That and there's not a lot of counselors running away making sure you're not drinking. *plots*
