It baffles me how Sesshoumaru is such a popular character with IY fans. I mean, I don't dislike him... in fact I have no reaction to him at all. But all the fangirls out there seem to love him.

He's so boring. He's good for a one-scene cameo where he proves he is the biggest fish in the room, and then that's enough, time to get back to the interesting characters with actual personalities.

Maybe it's because he has long hair, or because while he seems to care about no one but himself, he shows signs that he isn't a totally cold bastard by not killing his brother everytime he sees him, saving and keeping Rin around, and not only NOT killing the little annoying green guy (I know the name, my brain just refuses to function right now) but bringing him back to life.

Not that you were asking me *smiles*

Eh. I've watched so much anime that long hair is nothing to me. I did the long-hair-crushing thing back when I was 16 and obsessed with Duo Maxwell of Gundam Wing and his very long braid.

The whole Rin and Jaken things make him interesting to me, but in the supporting character way, and I am content with him in that position. When taken away from characters like Jaken, he becomes less interesting because he's so static and remote.

Now, now, diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks.

I am of the rare breed that finds Sesshomaru completely asexual but still fascinating. I love that you never know what he's thinking or what his motives are, and I love watching more outgoing characters react to him. I love the complicated and antagonistic relationship he has with his brother (more complicated in the manga, I think). I love the contrast he provides to Naraku, amoral vs. eeeeevil. And most of all I love that his role in the series gradually changes from uberbaddy to ally with no real OMG!EPIPHANY moments on Sesshomaru's part--the changes in Sesshomaru are so subtle as to be almost ungaugeable, or else he wasn't that fantastically horrible guy all along. That is why ep 99, "Koga & Sesshomaru's Dangerous Encounter", is my favorite even though it's a filler ep, because it's like "Oh. Huh. Sesshomaru (and Koga) had character development. Wow. They totally did. Did anyone else not notice this til now? Huhm."

And I love, love, LOVE the weirdly close-knit little family he has with Rin and Jaken and even Ah-Un. (But never ever EVER Sesshomaru/Rin as a 'ship, 'cause that just...cheapens it and simplifiees, to make it sexual.)

Still. Do not find him sexually attractive in THE LEAST, except in an objective "Yes, I can see why people think he is pretty" sort of way.
