What was the name of the other ninja that died in the Leaf/Sound war in the second season of Naruto-- the one who was assassinated by the Sand ninja before the Chunnin finals?

I haven't watched the anime so I might not be thinking of the same event as you but do you mean the Leaf ninja who was killed because he was spying on Kabuto's conversation with Sand guy Baki about Orochimaru's plan?

His name is Gekko Hayate.

(I reeeeeally shouldn't know this stuff. *contemplates deleting manga off of computer*)

Kakashi's last name/first name/whatever name is Hatake. I only know *that* because it's on one of my Naruto posters. Though I wish I could remember names from history (seeing as its my major) as well as every character's name in Naruto. Yamanaka Ino! Nara Shikamaru! ....Ten Ten. *headdesk*
