Some things stick in your mind, moments where you realize that in the eyes of the world you're an adult, not a kid. For me, one of those moments was the first time a stranger asked if I was married. I was 20, and completely flabbergasted for about a full three seconds-- which is a long time in a conversation in small car. I was utterly unprepared for that question and my brain just about fried on the spot at the very idea.

I was fourteen or fifteen the first time I was asked if I was married. But, I don't think it really counts, because I was asked by eight and nine-year-olds who guessed my age at a million. (I was assistant teaching kids' summer theatre.)
