Some things stick in your mind, moments where you realize that in the eyes of the world you're an adult, not a kid. For me, one of those moments was the first time a stranger asked if I was married. I was 20, and completely flabbergasted for about a full three seconds-- which is a long time in a conversation in small car. I was utterly unprepared for that question and my brain just about fried on the spot at the very idea.

I do sometimes, depending on who it is. If it's over the phone, almost always.

But when I was 17 I had a guy at the door ask me if "Mr.XXXXXX" was here, and I said no, and he said, "Are you his...wife?" That kinda stunned me.
