three things in my life

1. Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] riddering

Love love love me do.

2. Watched the first DVD of Arrested Development on my brother's recommendation. I have to say it:

INTERNETS, YOU WERE RIGHT. THIS SHOW IS REALLY FRIGGIN' FUNNY.

In fact, I'd be willing to email a network (who owns this show?) and tell them I think the show is hi-fucking-larious and to keep it on the air. I'd also love to quote some of the dialogue here on my livejournal... but there are so many funny bits, and half of them require the attached visual images for you to get the joke.

But dude. There's money in the banana stand!

3. Joined forces with the brother tonight to battle the parents in a bloody game of spades. To be honest I wasn't excited about being my brother's partner because I don't have the sort of mind-reading synergy thing with him that I do with my mom when she's my boardgame/card partner, and neither is he absurdly and almost offendingly lucky like my dad (I swear, if my dad were into gambling we'd be billionaires by now). My brother and me have a relationship that consists most often of bickering and, when it comes to cards, blaming each other for losing 100 points because I went nill and he couldn't beat a 9 of hearts. Twice.

Ahh. Siblinghood. Final score: 634 - parents, 296 - children. My worst loss at spades in like 3 years. Stupid parents with their stupid 25 year mind-reading marriage and their stupid years of experience playing spades...

On the bright side, the four times that I did go nill and we traded the first card, each time my brother gave me exactly the suit I was trying to tell him with ESP to give me. Clearly there's hope for us in the realm of mental communication.

Next time we'll beat them THE POWER OF YOUTH BURNS LIKE FIRE WITHIN US! WE CANNOT LOSE! NEXT TIME, ANYWAY!

The other, unrelated, bright side is that for over a month now my mom and I have been recording our backgammon games, and stastics prove that I have surpassed her. There's no getting around it: numbers cannot lie! THE STUDENT HAS BECOME THE TEACHER! HUZZAH!

I'm needing to buy me AD. I've caught a few episodes on the teevee from time to time and it kills me. I have to watch that from the beginning.

I think now that I've seen the beginning I'll find the later episodes much easier to get into. I have a handle on the characters now. I know it's been said to be a difficult show to get into... but I've adjusted my opinion on that. I think it helps to have seen previous episodes, but really if you watch the whole single episode from the beginning, you'll get most of the jokes. The episodes seemed to be very thematic and most of the jokes start in the beginning of the episode and finish by the end-- very enclosed. I think if you started in the middle of an episode, though, it wouldn't be as funny.

AD is an awesome show, and I'm glad you got to catch it. True, you do need to pay very close attention to the episodes to get all the humor (and some you might have missed by looking away) and you must catch the second season. We borrowed the first season recently and caught a lot of jokes we missed the first time around, and some that they ran with well into the second season. I'm so glad us INTERNETS got that show rolling. Stupid FOX trying to kill all the good shows. Bastards!

The actor for the teenage son is great. He looks like he's trying desperately to "smile and nod, just smile and nod" when really he has no idea what's going on and is totally confused.

A rabid ex-empoyee is even funnier than the banana stand line--but the banana stand line is my mom's fav, too.
