film selection

Got into this from [livejournal.com profile] kimberly_a who put it up for [livejournal.com profile] slipjig's LJ poll here.

Most of these are recent (within 20 years), because while I've seen a lot of old movies (especially musicals), I tended to like these better.

My top 10 favorite movies ever
(in no particular order)
- Fight Club
- Moulin Rouge
- The Shawshank Redemption
- Spirited Away
- Dead Poet's Society
- Silverado
- Toy Story
- Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
- Braveheart
- Memento

Well, them's the best I gots!

Runner-ups and Honorable Mentions:
Donnie Darko
A Fish Called Wanda
The Breakfast Club
The Princess Bride
Princess Mononoke
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Harvey
Paint Your Wagon
Hook

Pleasantville
Monty Python's Quest For the Holy Grail

Memento, The Princess Bride, and A Fish Called Wanda would be on my honorable mention list, as well.

I my opinion, A Fish Called Wanda is the funniest movie I've ever seen. I could rant on for pages about what I loved from that movie. In this case, I'll settle for one of my favorite movie quotes ever:

"Oh no! It's K-K-Ken coming to k-k-k-kill me!"

Thank god I wasn't drinking anything when I read this comment. My monitor would be drenched. Indeed, that is one of the best movie quotes ever written. Kevin Kline is simply brilliant in that movie.

::giggle:: I'm glad that's someone else's favorite line too.

Kevin Kline is simply brilliant in that movie.

KK is one of my favorite actors, both in serious and comedic stuff, and in AFCW he was my favorite character. Because he was SO stupid and yet he couldn't stand it when people called him that. I loved his fish-eating interrogation.

Dammit! Now you've got me gushing about the movie... ;)

Many thank-yous, both for the list and the link! I can tell right away that the next two weeks are going to consist of me checking my lj and shrieking, "Dammit! I forgot [insert fantastic movie here]!" In this case, it's "Dammit! I forgot Dead Poets Society!"

Yep. I lurve that movie. And part of me still resents that I went through all high school without getting Robin Williams as my English teacher. **melodramtic sigh** We could've been so good together!
