Popular AMV site AnimeMusicVideos.org has been served with a cease & desist order by an unnamed record label in regards to AMVs using music from Evanescence, Creed, and Seether.

According to AnimeMusicVideos.org admin "Phade" the copyright holders for those three bands do not want the bands music distributed on the website. Their legal representation stated that it would be acceptable if AnmeMusciVideo.org removed their links to all the AMV featuring those bands.

In total close to 2000 AMVs have been removed from the website.

According to Phade, the lawyer representing the record label/copyright holders stated that the AMVs and the website came to the copyright holders attention when a fan contacted them and asked if the AMVs hosted on AnimeMusicVideos.org were created by the band.

You can find all eight she made here. She also made me four Angel Sanctuary icons, but I know you're not into that. They're all of Anna and Johan. No Tenma, though. Sorry. Was never that big on him as a character. I only offer these to you because you intro'd to me to the series and you're always looking for good Monster icons. Usually, I don't share anything my graphics slave Byakugan makes for me. :D

I can never use up all 100 spots. I'm always at 98. I never had all fifty of my spots filled back in the day when 50 was the limit. I'm near constantly changing my shit out, too, so ...

After reading up on the situation, it's very possible that the bands themselves don't actually mind but they had to do something since this letter landed on their lawyer's desk.

*shrugs* So we can't upload AMVs to AMV.org with three band's songs on them anymore. Until they start sending cease and desist letters to the people who MAKE AMVs, I'm not going to worry because there are plenty of other ways to distribute AMVs on the net right now.

I must be the only one who's not freaking out over this. ^^

I'm not that freaked out. They didn't shut the site down, and I was never particularly fond of Creed or Evanescence videos. I will miss potential Seether vids though-- I meant to look for some when I last visited the site but forgot.

If they did shut the site down I'd be heartbroken, because it's such a monumental resource.
