timepiececlock: (happy birthday!)

CAKE!

hhm... chocolatey goodness!

So my 19th birthday's technically on Wednesday, but my family celebrated today. A small clebration, but very nice. And cake. Chocolate cake w/ vanilla ice cream.

I got two equally gorgoeus cards from my parents. My dad always finds these unbelievably beautiful cards; I don't kno how he does it. It's like his super power-- superb taste in cards. My grandmother came over, and that's wonderful. She's looking so much better now, even still being on oxygen tanks. It was wonderful to have her there.

My gifts were as follow:

-Evanescence album 'Fallen' --> awesome

-DareDevil sountrack --> love the Saliva song, others

-issue of the Farscape official magazine ---> neat reading

-Stephen King's non-fiction book 'On Writing' ---> I can't wait to read this

-reference: '2003 Writer's Market' --> neat-o!

**** We interrupt this broadcast to say that Rob Zombie's song form DD soundtrack, 'The Man Without Fear', is stupid and we're skipping it******

- The Oxford Essential Geographical Dictionary --> because, apparently, I'm "constantly looking that stuff up and this should help."

- some nice matching bracelets

- a little key-chain quote book on girl power

- nice light-weight dark jean jacket, that brings out the red in my hair.

- taken out to lunch w/ friend K earlier today

- $60 toward my new "Have a Life Fund." Seriously-- that's written on the card. You don't know how pathetic you are until your parents have to give you money to tell you to get a life. I think I'll go out, buy 'A Sudden Rush of Blood To The Head', and then put the rest away until Fanime Con.

Happy birthday, rashaka!

thank you!

I live for the reference books....

 About half a year ago I borrowed the thesaurus frm my dad's office-room and started keeping it in mine, and... haven't given it back yet. In fact, it could probably qualify as "stolen" at this point. Too bad my bookshelf is already so packed...

Hey, since I have a lame habit of forgetting things that are right in front of me, in case I forget, happy birthday!! Sounds like some terrific toys. Hope the real day is as good for you!

Thank you! Unfortunatley, birtthday is right in the middle of finals week, so stress will be high. But there will be left-over cake, too.

I tried to buy the Evanescence CD yesterday, but it's not out in Canada till April 1st (grr arg).

You don't have Rush of Blood to the Head yet???? GET IT NOW!

Stephen King's On Writing is a brilliant book. It made a huge impact on my own writing, namely when he convinced me not to be ashamed of the word "genre."

I know, I know. In fact, I'm torn. My friend has a pirated version of it, and I'm very tempted to copy it from her. But then, I really want the wrods and lyrics and art and pictures of Chris Martin. So I think I'll buy it.

I love adore and worship Coldplay. Spend the money and support them. I'm going to see Coldplay in June when they come back to Toronto and I'm so excited.

'A Sudden Rush of Blood To The Head'

Hey, I've never heard of that CD. ::eg::

It's weird, you're the tenth person I've seen writing it incorrectly. There's no "sudden," girlie. ;)

But nitpicking aside, I command you to buy it now. Actually, buy "Parachutes" first. I have hooked ALL of my friends on them, and I have to say, they are the only current mainstream music I listen to nowadays.

The beautiful melodies, the heartfelt lyrics -- ::sigh::

You're serious? Hm. I wonder where I picked that up from, then.

I love The Scientist (see: icon). I've heard it from downloads for months now, and I _never_ever_tire_of_it. Adore that song.

On Writing is fabulous - and, strangely, one of only two Stephen King books I've read. It did make me rather protective of adverbs, though. Adverbs are my friend.

I've read some Stephen King, but not even what amounts to a quarter of his work. But I like him, and I'm excited about reading this.

If you're going to read only ONE thing of SK's in your life, you should read the Dark Tower series. It's four books, with another 3 to come.

In order:

The Gunslinger
The Drawing of the Three
The Waste Lands
Wizard and Glass

I adore these books. My favorite books, and have been for a long time now. He's gotten more fan response on this story than on anything else he's written.

They're different from his other books. If you're a fan of his already you'll love them, but if you hate his horror books... well, there's still a strong chance you'll love them anyway. The series is a mixture of contemporary dark fantasy, post-apocalytpic fiction, time travel, westerns, medieval-style fantasy, philosophy, and a quest adventure, with elements of horror and romance. Sounds like a lot to cram together, but it really is all there. Very strange and original series, inspired by the Robert Browning poem "Childe Roland To The Dark Tower Came." Go read it. You'll get completley sucked into the multi-layered universe.

That does sound really, really cool. I'll check it out, as soon as I read Everything's Eventual, which [livejournal.com profile] spazatron bought for me and made me promise to finish, which I, um, haven't.
