Blinding Flash of the Obvious

The word nada is Spanish.

I went through nearly twenty years of my life with nada as part of my lexicon, always used correctly, and never once did it occur to me that it might be a Spanish word.

I just thought it was slang. California slang. haha. You can all laugh at me now.

You DO know c'est la vie is French, right?

Escuchen el tomate
¿No es triste?
El no puede cantar.
¡Pobre tomate!
El desería poder cantar
fuerte y dulce como el pepino
Pero no puede...
¡Ni siquiera da un silbido!

well yeah. first off, c'est la vie is a phrase, not a single word. second, it doesn't even sound like it could be english slang (like "gonna" sounds like slang). thirdly, I took french classes.

I know other spanish words, like casa or loco or denada or si. but I knew those were spanish words.

ack. sorry, 'shaka--I was aiming for gently snarky and it came out far too bitchy instead. I apologize.

Well, so was I and apprently so did I.

See, we're too nice.

We should both just say "You thought I was bitchy? Well I WAS! EAT THAT BITCH!"

And then hug and make up. ::snuggle::

Heh. "De nada" is two words. Literally, "of nothing."

It's funny. I don't know if it's from growing up in the Bay Area or from taking Spanish -- I have SO many Spanish words in my vocabulary. I always say "Voy al ----" if I'm going somewhere. I'm just weird.

Do you understand the rap in Sublime's "Caress Me Down"?

Hell no. Maybe one in 20 words. the most spanish class I ever took was 7 weeks in sixth grade. All I remember from that are the numbers.

Most of the spanish words I do know, I can say but can't spell (see you point above.)
