::Flabbergasted:: Is this bizzarr-o world, or something?

I've been summoned for jury duty.

I'm nine-fucking-teen.

I'm not supposed to be a juror until I'm at least in my twenties or thirties or something.

They don't want me. I'm in college, and I am too quick to fry people.

Do you have the exemption request for being a college student in California? In Texas they give us the option on the form, and you just mail it in and that's that, you don't have to go. I've done that both times I've been summoned.

Hmm...

I've had those too but I've never actually been summoned yet. ::knocks on wood::

Still. I think like you know, twenty-five is too young.

That happened to me a couple times and the cases were both settled before I had to go in to serve. And if you do wind up having to go in? Hey, it's research for your next story.

I think they figure that if you're old enough to vote, you're old enough to decide a "peer's" fate. But really, if you go and get picked it can be really interesting. And hey, it's also fun to go in to jury selections and be all "I think we should issue the death penalty to fuckin' everyone!" or someother extreme sentiment. It's fun to watch the lawyers flip out.

what's your job again?

You know, I never really thought about jury duty in the UK. I guess you must have it, cause otherwise you would be jerks and we wouldn't call you our ally. But all I get is this lingering vision of people in wigs and a big, scary judge. Dunno where that comes from. ::shrug::

Both of my parents have done jury duty at least 3 times, and my mom was summoned but opted out twice when my brother and I were very young, on grounds of taking care of young children.
