I am biting my cheek waiting for the new Naruto episode. That teaser of the opening that [livejournal.com profile] riddering posted is driving me crazy.

We wants it, we wants it precious! My precious, yes we wants it... we wants it now not later...

I figure in the new arc we're finally starting on what I've been waiting for ever since Sasuke got targeted by Orochimaru: Sasuke's descent to the dark side. You see, I predicted it way back when and this new opening only makes me certain that it's coming.

Well, it wasn't really a secret that Sasuke was going to do that since he lust for revenge is so deep; however, you haven't read the manga have you? He redeems himself in someway, even though I have no idea what's going to happen to him yet.

You need to read the manga if you haven't already. It's so moving.

I am reading the manga. I'm _buying_ it. ::sigh:: I loathe reading manga on the computer and I never do it if I can buy it/check it out from the library in book form instead.

I would buy the manga, but I'm very impatient, and I know the translations they release in stores aren't as accurate as the ones online.

And I'm not going to spoil it for you. That would just be cold. =[

I'm not certain they are more accurate. I mean, what do you base that one, specifically?

I hear people say in any fandom that online translations are more accurate than purchased ones. But I don't know if I buy that-- sometimes I think some fans would just like to think they, like a happy fantasy maybe to justify piracy or something or simply because it makes them feel more cool and underground or something. I imagine accuracy, being hard to measure regardless, varies from title to title because you have different people working on different series. And I think manga now is probably more accurate than manga from 4 years ago-- there's a greater demand, and thus more customer feedback to hold the translators to task (for instance, I've noticed there's a lot more accuracy in culture-sensitive translations than there used to be.) A fansubber/ online translator doesn't risky losing their job if he or she makes a poor translation; there only stake in it is a personal one. Which is good because it means that they are doing it because they love it-- but it also means they don't answer to anyone about their accuracy, not so much that it means anything anyway.

So, I ask, why do you feel that the Naruto in particular translations online are more or less accurate than those put out by publishing companies? What knowledge do you base your comparison on?

I don't know about the translations specifically by Inane, but there's this one girl that translates it directly from the raw version of the manga. Honestly, I just trust her above others.

Well, I guess I don't always trust other people that much. I'm too suspicious of fans tweaking it because it sounds better one way or another or more like what they want to hear. The same problem goes for fansubs of the anime series, of course, but right now I have no alternative. For Naruto, slow though it may be, I have the proffessional alternative. And since I wouldn't know which is accurate either way, I'm more inclined to trust people who do this stuff for a living rather than a hobby. Also, I just hate reading manga on my computer.

But, to each her own. :) Depending on how things go I might end up reading the fan translations anyway, if I get dissatisfied with waiting for new eps.

I need to DL the last two episodes because I heard there was SasuSaku fan service in'em.

All hail the 'ship that will never be!

In 102 & 103? Not at all. At least, I didn't notice any kind of fanservice.

::sigh::

Ah fooey.

Well, time to go DL the RAW of Chapter 235 then!

I cannot wait for you to get the next arc! When I heard the opening credits were all about the latest manga arc, I died from the squee. It's so full of characterization, backstory*, aaaaaaaangst, and more suprises than you can shake a stick at.

*It never ceases to amaze me how relevant and important the backstories for twelve year olds are in Naruto.

No kidding. But then again, if you are a trained lethal ninja of *journeyman* status at age 6 like Kakashi was, I get the feeling age passes rather fast for these folks.
