Atlantis fic?

ATTENTION STARGATE: ATLANTIS FANS ON MY FLIST!

... can you rec me some fanfic? Gen or het stuff, preferrably.

I just got this sudden weird desire to read Atlantis fic, but I've never looked into it before so I've no idea where to start.

I wish I could help you. But the people on my FL who write for Atlantis either write slash or are obsessed with genderbending characters, a trend that grows and continues to baffle the crap outta me.

What do you mean by "genderbending characters?"

[identity profile] donna-c-punk.livejournal.com 2005-03-16 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
They'll take, say, McKay .... and turn him into a female version of McKay. Like some kind of weird alternate universe type of thing. Rodney was never a guy, he was actually a woman. I've also seen them do a TON of it in the regular SG-1 universe and for Smallville.

Wow. I bet they made Daniel the woman, huh?

Actually, this amuses me though. Cause McKay is like SO very much a guy. I can't even imagine him being female.

Thanks for elaborating. I've seen that kind of genderbending in fics for other fandoms before, but most of the time it's not my thing. Feels to OOC.

Yeah, one of my friends is pretty famous in the SG-1 fandom for her female Daniel character.

I'm not one for genderbending either, because it's just so silly, too. If you want to put Jack and Daniel together, then just write slash, for the love of God.

There have been quite a few really good gen pieces (and I *think* at least a couple het) posted over at [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic. Wraithbait (http://www.wraithbait.com/) has both a gen and het category but I haven't been through it yet so I can't vouch for quality. Ack! Sorry I couldn't be more help. I'm in a wallowing phase with McKay/Sheppard so I haven't yet branched out much beyond that pairing.

Thanks for the links. :) Now I have some archives to go back to when the mood strikes me.

I don't read enough SGA gen and het to rec you specific pieces, but I saw that someone already pointed out Wraithbait - that's pretty much the main SGA archive, all-inclusive. sheppardandweir.com is pairing-specific, but I can't speak to the quality of anything that lives there. Most of the John/Teyla stuff out there is ff.net fangirl dreck, so I'd advise you to avoid fic for that pairing unless you're reeeally into it.

Thanks for the links.

I'm not really into any pairing as of yet. I thought Weir and McKay were looking good early on, but my watching of episodes has been so spotty that I can't really follow up with the shipwatch. I had noticed a lot of het-centric people on LJ seemed to be into Sheppard/Weir.

I really liked this one (http://www.livejournal.com/~merryish/132548.html) - it's listed as preslash, but it works as gen too. And I haven't read much there, but you might want to skim through the [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic commmunity. There are some good writers on there. (I really wish I was into slash for this show, because there are a ton of great stories already, but alas, I can't make myself read them.)

Ooh, I enjoyed that one. Thank you! Very good banter.
