I feel like this is the first episode since New Earth where the show has its vibe back. That DW vibe that I've been missing. That was MY DOCTOR, right there. Not some inconsistantly characterized jackass.

The episode wasn't overwhlemingly fabulous, but it was good, it was interesting, and it had that vibe. Which is really all I need from DW. I don't love the new DW because it's earth-shattering television. I love it because it's my show. For the past few eps it hasn't felt like my show, or like my show but only in portions, but it really did with this ep. And that was nice.

[livejournal.com profile] donna_c_punk, I agree with you about the Event Horizon comparison. There was something about the episode that really reminded me of something I'd seen, but I couldn't put my finger on it. It was probably EH, because I didn't notice that feeling until we got to the psychological stuff in the second half of the episode.

He totally looked like a Sasuke cosplayer, too.

This is the first time I've really REALLY recognized Ten as The Doctor through the entire episode since I watched The Christmas Invasion. THAT is the Doctor, that guy right there. He was a lot less snotty, for one thing, and more like the amused observer I remember from the Ninth Doctor. Did he even shout in anyone's face this episode? I don't think he did. Pretty much every episode so far Ten has shouted belligerently in someone's face.

I'm not sure why he felt RIGHT this episode whereas he didn't in the last few... the only answer I have is that they must have just turned down his annoying traits by a few notches, while still leaving the good bits of Tennet's Tenth Doctor that are funny and cute and sexy.

I loved his reaction to the idea of settling down. And Rose's comment about possibly sharing a mortgage was great because it was awkward but just the right kind of awkward, if you know what I mean. Not a bad awkward, just... the elephant in the room kind of awkward. They both skirt around the fact that it's there. She laid it on the table, but in a way that wasn't serious and that didn't force anything from him, and the conversation didn't have any detrimental effect on their relationship or change tension. It was just... putting out the offer and then backing off before things got too heavy. But the offer's now out there, if some day it should ever be taken up.

----Please god, SOMEONE needs to write that fic.

I really liked the two of them in this episode. It felt the right amount of shippiness without being too much. It could be read as very close friendship or as something more romantic, but either way works. The point is that the closeness was there. The emotional closeness that Rose felt with Nine-- this looked to me like the first time she had that same vibe with Ten.

It was good to see.

Oh, and Rose hogging the comm system amused me.
