timepiececlock: (Origin of Love)
Character: Billy (not Horrible)
Fandom: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog

1. Do you like this character?
I feel for him more than like him. I sympathize with him, I like writing fic for him, but I don't know if I'd want to be his friend IRL. He's pretty selfish.

2. What name/s do you call this character?
Billy [Buddy]

3. What image-color do you associate with this character?
Gray & Blue

4. What image-song do you associate with character?
"One Headlight" by The Wallflowers: "I'm so alone, and I feel just like somebody else / Man, I ain't changed, but I know I ain't the same / But somewhere here in between the city walls of dyin' dreams / I think her death it must be killin' me."

5. What blood-type do you think this character is?
B-. I don't know what that means in terms of culturalization, but if B comes after A in the alphabet, Hammer would be A and Billy would be B. Negative, obviously.

6. Of all of the titles that this character appears in, what character do you like to put this character with?
I'm not sure I understand the first half of the question...Penny?

7. What would you want to say to this character?
Let's talk. I brought comfort food. Someone, right here, is listening to whatever you have to say.

8. Which do you want to do with this character: Shake hands, hug, or kiss?
HUG. He needs a lot of hugging, this guy.

9. Please choose 5 friends with your choice of character.
Your choice: [livejournal.com profile] hakeber, [livejournal.com profile] riddering, [livejournal.com profile] donna_c_punk, [livejournal.com profile] jaina, [livejournal.com profile] lilyayl

"No more Nathan with his bean dip." ... "I can do all your jobs!"

Heeheehee. Do I need to spoiler cut this? Somehow I don't feel like doing so. In fact, I refuse on principle.

The commentary was amusing, though not all of the songs were as entertaining as the actual show. Which is not very surprising, given that it's only a commentary.

I had some trouble understanding the lyrics, and sadly the DVD didn't have subtitles for it, but I liked Groupie #2 and Neil's song best. Especially when he starts singing about tripping over cords and wires in the dark because he scared all the techs away.

I watched the first four ELE applications, which were hilarious. I particularly enjoyed the songs. I was worried they'd be too embarrassing, like watching American Idol rejects, but they're usually talented in one way or another, so it's funny to see.

I caught the number on the Wiccan subtitle, and [livejournal.com profile] irrel told me it had something to do with a Mariah Carey album and I was supposed to press ENTER when Felicia Day mentions the singer in the Musical Making Of video, but I tried and nothing happened. I did catch the yellow highlighted letters in the credits that said "ENTER AT ACT 2" though, so I pushed play for the main show, skipped forward, and pressed ENTER when the words "ACT II" came up.

It took me to this screen with an ELE logo and countdown from 5-4-3-2-1, but after that nothing happened and it just took me back to the main menu. What's the point?

I spent two hours on it, though, and there's time for more later. End story: if you saw DH online six months ago and liked it, then the DVD is totally worth $10.00. If you were iffy, then there's nothing here that's likely to change your mind. Either way, there's not much point in pirating the thing because damn, dude, it's only ten dollars. And sometimes Amazon.com has free shipping.

Fanfiction:

In completely separate news, I'm determined to finish up my Sheldon/Penny ficlet tonight. It involves making out, which is harder to do with this pairing than most of the pairings I've written, because The Big Bang Theory's Sheldon Cooper makes the pre-1990s asexual Doctor Who look like a raging bag of hormones. Sheldon, on the other hand, is just a raging bag.

You know, since I realized last night that the DVDs were out for Doctor Horrible's Sing Along Blog, I was going to support my local businesses and go down to buy a copy. You know, like, NOT PIRATE SOMETHING FOR ONCE.

And what do I find? I make six phone calls to four different chains, and none of them are carrying the DVD. Which has been out for a week! It seems it's only available for online purchase with Amazon.com. WAY TO NOT FIGHT PIRACY, GUYS. You all fail. I wanted to go down and physically pay money to you. Like a good American should.

Fanvids crossing the songs of Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog with clips from the show Doctor Who. Why? BECAUSE IF YOU VID IT, THEY WILL COME. Oh yes. Make sure to watch in high quality when available! None of these are by me. Note spoiler warnings.

The ones by MonkeyWithJetpacks are the best, but they're all entertaining, and I think they've covered nearly every song. "Brand New Day" is by far the smoothest melding of the Dr.H music to the imagery/themes of DW, but I really get a kick out of the idea of The Master applying for the Evil League of Evil.

Title: Some Kind of Hero
Fandoms: Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and How I Met Your Mother, with two other minor crossovers if you can catch them!
Source: [livejournal.com profile] barneyrobin Drabblethon Challenge
Genres, Pairings, Characters, etc: Barney/Robin, Hammer/Robin, humor
Spoilers: post-season 3 for HIMYM, pre-canon for Dr.H.
Wordcount: 2,500

Summary / Challenge prompt: “Captain Hammer runs into Barney and mistakes him for Doc Horrible.”

Notes: You’ll have to forgive me for this one, folks. It was born of a challenge, and it’s a bit of a parody at heart. Please, please do not take it seriously. There are run-on sentences, and a lot of silliness too.

Some Kind of Hero

''Okay, I lied. I am Doctor Horrible. You found me, damn you.'' )

(I don't have time to write fanfic anymore, only imagine it.)

You know what's really sadly funny? You could imagine Barney's life like this:

Childhood: The young, wide-eyed and good-hearted Doogie Howser becomes a teen prodigy in the medical field.

Early Twenties: Disillusioned and disaffected with the medical profession and angry with the world at large, the brilliant young doctor changes his name to Billy, abandons his family, friends, relatives, and high income status, moves out to Los Angeles, and takes on the mantle of Doctor Horrible, supervillain.

Mid-Twenties: After losing the first person he ever loved, Billy gave up being Doctor Horrible and relocated again, this time to New York, where he re-connected with his long-lost half-brother, Wayne Brady, and took on the name Barney Stinson. He decided that instead of ruling the world he should try living life as a normal person and help in smaller idealistic ways, to make Penny proud. He met Shannon and fell in love again, only to have his heart broken again.

Late Twenties / Early Thirties: Suffering from his second heartbreak and his second failure at retaining and idealistic world view, Barney once again embraces cynicism: he goes corporate. He does terrible things and makes an insane amount of money, but when he's not at work he clings to his loyal circle of friends, finally finding a balance between the good and evil inside his heart.

And on the plus side, he no longer has to give people colon exams.

I kind of want to make an LJ community for fans of the book Soon I Will Be Invincible, which I read on Sunday evening in a motel room on my way to Denver and adored. I have a long, babbling, review that will be posted as soon as I can figure how to not have it be 7 paragraphs long, positive AND negative criticism.

Would anyone be interested?

I only know that I want to read fanfiction, or something, or possibly doodle the characters, and I want to talk to others about how awesome the female superheroes and other female characters are, even the character who resembles Penny from Dr. Horrible. Or, rather, the kind of character that I wish Joss Whedon'd had the foresight or cleverness to let Penny become instead of refrigerating her right off the bat. I also want to talk to people about the really strange timeline inconsistancies that I can't figure out are deliberate mockery of comic book canon discontinuity, or just sloppy inattentiveness that an editor let slide through. I want to babble about shipping, because I finished the book with two possible OTPs, a couple entertaining not-quite-OTPs, and at least one "unconventional" pairing that I actually thought the book was going to commit to at one point in my reading.

If you're not interested, or don't know the source material: go read Soon I Will Be Invincible, and THEN come back and tell me if you're interested. The book is a pretty swift 300 pages that you can read in a few hours. Except you might want to read it again.*

DONE! [livejournal.com profile] be_invincible! ....

*I hate that there's not ten sequels out there already, waiting for me to purchase.

Title: "I Turn the Engine, But the Engine Doesn't Turn"
Drabbles: #1-4
Word Count: 1,600
Fandom: Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, minor crossover with Highlander: The Series
Timeline: six years after Act III
Characters: Penny, Billy
Author's Notes: I posted some of this a few weeks ago, but this is the polished version, with more than just lines of dialogue.
Soundtrack: "One Headlight" by The Wallflowers
This is my Billy>>Penny song in my head. It's sadder than I remember from high school.

Summary: After six years, in a different city with different lives, she stands on his doorstep.

So long ago, I don't remember when
That's when they say I lost my only friend
Well they said she died easy of a broken heart disease
As I listened through the cemetery trees

P.S. There's a third, even more minor crossover in there.

I drew my favorite scene from Act II in black & gray inks. It's the first portrait I've done in about a year, and the first I've ever done in pens.

You know what would be pretty cool?

Doctor Who fanvids to the music of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, especially if you're thinking about Ten's anger issues... or heck, the Master too! Such as Slipping or Brand New Day.

Thought I'd toss the concept out into the ether and see what it picks up.

Awesome, Y/N?

If I had an account at Whedonesque.com, I'd make a post and link to this Dr. Horrible music thingy:

It's an awesome idea and a solid effort, plus I love how into the "character" of the music he gets. Also, I wish I could play violin.

Comic Con was amazing. I'll post a few pictures later, after I sort through them. I met several people from LiveJournal and DevArt while at the convention, which was a treat. Some of them I knew before hand, others I'll now be out looking for on various major fan sites.

It was a bit weird to out myself as a fan because I've only met a few other fans from the internet before, and those were always personal meet-ups, never at a huge convention. It's so odd to see cosplayers on the internet and know that yesterday I was watching them goof around ten feet from where I sat, leaning against the giant plate glass windows and listening to the ripped soundtrack of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog on endless repeat.

I met a couple of people that I went totally fangirl on, which I'm at various stages of content/embarrassed about. BNFs and actual celebrities alike.

Felicia Day: So nice! And so tiny. You really can't tell from the camera.

John Barrowman: I met Captain Jack! Seriously, I MET CAPTAIN JACK! I walked by and was surprised to see him doing buy-in signatures, so I bought in. We shook hands, I said I was a huge fan, he let me take his picture. I was exceedingly mature and mundane for what was going on in my head. Luckily it wasn't David Tennant or Christopher Eccleston, because I definitely wouldn't have been so composed.

Having met him in person, JB is my choice for Captain Hammer in a hypothetical stage musical version of Dr. Horrible. He looks that perfect mixture of hot/smarmy.

On Saturday I purchased a black light Sonic Screwdriver, which I put together on the spot using my Leatherman Wave Knife-Tool (every girl should have one!) and the help of Irrel and her sister. Yes, sadly, it turned into a collaborative group project...the thing would not let go of the other thing.

Today, Sunday, I went around the exhibit hall randomly "zapping" people with my Sonic Screwdriver in the hopes that someone would tell me to put it away. No one did, but I got funny looks. I really had way, way too much fun with that toy. So worth the fifteen bucks!

Favorite geek moment: "FREEZE FRAME HIGH FIVE!" (like three separate occasions)

1. An amusing Dr. Horrible/Billy music video, very spoilery. Love the song choice.

2. So. Dialogue bits for Dr. Horrible fic. Minor Highlander crossover, minor surprise crossover. Very rough; 3 drabble conversations.

Six years later )

I'm listening to the rip of "On the Rise" and damn if I don't love NPH's voice. Although "Brand New Day" is probably the more difficult song to sing... my player just clicked over to that one, and it's really quite well done. It might even be my favorite song. How is it that Act II rocked so hard but Act III didn't?

-signed Bad Horse!

p.s. I still want the keys to a shiny new Australia.

---------------

And as I said before, the song "One Headlight" is my "angsty" song for them, especially Billy>>Penny.

So long ago, I don't remember when
That's when they say I lost my only friend
Well they said she died easy of a broken heart disease
As I listened through the cemetery trees

"Do you know anything about the Game?"
"Which Game?"
"The immortal's Game."

"There's always been theory that certain superpowers can be conducted through lightning or channels of intensified energy...I hear once that there was a highly exclusive group of supers who devoted years or decades to a complicated suicide game. Like Russian Roullette, with lightning. I thought it was too ridiculous. To waste that kind of power, I mean. Especially if there's a whole group of you with the same abilities. You could be an army."

The natural number of any immortal is one.

"I was going to say you didn't kill me, because it was an accident."
"It's my fault.Doubly so, for not killing Captain Hammer when I had the chance."
"Do you regret not hesitating?"
"I used to. For the first year in the ELE, I told myself it all would have been different if I'd just killed him first. But after the bomb... no, i don't regret it."
"Bomb?"

Interviewer: “¿Quién es más awesome?” Or, who is more awesome, Barney or Dr. Horrible?

Neil Patrick Harris: Dr. Horrible on a scale of one to 10 is a 10, and Barney’s, like, 27.

article here. no spoilers.

I love this song that's openning it. NPH really, REALLY sells it. And Felicia Day's voice is lovely too.

Act II, which promptly kicks Act I's ass )

Wow, this second act is even better. The show just jumped from "wacky cute" to "OMG FAN LUFF". I thought ActI was funny, but the pacing was a bit slow. Act II kicks into gear right off the bat. The songs are even more fun, and the climactic moment of decision is wonderful. Also, my tv crush on NPH has quadrupled with this whole singing thing.

Now I want Barney on How I Met Your Mother to do a kareoke scene! Seriously, if the writers of that show don't give Barney (NPH) a kareoke bar scene in season 4 after watching him as Dr. Horrible, then MY HEART WILL ACHE.
timepiececlock: (Spy no Jutsu)

Ahahaahaaaa. This is looking great. I love the laundry sequence, and the big musical climax at the end. I want Act 2 now! In this crazy internet age I am too impatient to wait even a measley two days!
