timepiececlock: (S/U - I set you apart)
So, la la la! Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] irrel drew and posted a gen Kirk + Spock BFF comic strip for me. It's the most LOLtastic present I've gotten in ages, inspired from HIMYM dialogue and illustrated with ridiculously amusing expressions. Totally movie spoilery.

Go check it out and have a giggle!

Art that amused me recently:

A Series of Unfortunate Events , non-fandom, just silly fun.

I forgive you Zuko, Avatar:TLA, spoilers for 3x16, hilarious Katara expressions.

Inside The Doctor's Brain... , Doctor Who, Ten.

Cuddlllllllllle, Avatar:TLA, Katara/Zuko, one of the prettiest ATLA fanarts I've seen.

Naruto 431: Team Gai's Homeward Bound, parody, Naruto manga spoilers and its Chapter 434 sequel.

Naruto 435 crack , Naruto manga spoilers.

Heeeheheehehheeeee.

I laughed out loud. Then I rewound it and got two other people over to the tv to watch it, and they laughed at the State Dept. line too.

So, here's the first official collaboration I've ever done! Mostly it involved the two of us bribing each other, which turned out to be a ridiculously circular exercise in coercion. I got the distanced used in the title from this website and divided it by sixty to find the distance the earth moves around the sun per minute. And if I did it improperly, shut up and don't tell me. (I made banners after all.)

Title: "The Earth Moved 1,117.7 Miles In Our Kitchen"
Fandom: The Big Bang Theory [tv]
Written by: [livejournal.com profile] rashaka
Illustrated by: [livejournal.com profile] irrel
Rating: Teen
Pairing: Penny/Sheldon
Spoilers: minor for 2x03 "The Barbarian Sublimation"
Word count: 2,900
Picture count: 3
Summary: Like Wonder Woman, Superman, She-Ra and all those characters her geeky friends cherished, Penny knew in one single, glorious moment what she had to do.

P.S. There are now sequel drabbles in the comments below.
P.S.S. And sequel art!!

I drew my favorite scene from Act II in black & gray inks. It's the first portrait I've done in about a year, and the first I've ever done in pens.

I cannot believe my eyes,
how the world's
filled with filth and lies [finally growing wise]
And it's plain to see
the evil [the rapture]
inside of me
is on the rise

[livejournal.com profile] redbrunhja has been sucked into the quicksand that is Naruto, and I've been plying her with fic recs and so forth. I thought now would be a good time to consolidate a list of all my favorite Naruto fanarts from various places. Naruto fandom has some truly talented fan artists.

I've started a sketch of ATLA fanart, which I'm very excited about. I've drawn about half of it now, on what I call "canvas board" for lack of a better term. It appears to be a piece of stiff paper-board or light cardboard that has something canvas-like stretched across it and glued to the surface. So it's like drawing on canvas weave... but the back is hard, instead of pulled over a frame.

I LOVE THIS STUFF.

I need to get more of it. I sort of inherited this blank piece of board when I got a bunch of my late grandmother's painting supplies three years ago; I've no idea how old it is or if you can even buy it anymore (it's got to be at least 10 or 12 years old.) This stuff is great to draw on. It erases easily, and it's much stiffer than paper or a sketchbook. Plus, when I'm done sketching I can just paint right over the thing instead of trying to transfer it.

This is the first fanart I've done in nearly two years. Should be fun. I've never had the discipline to stick with drawing, but I do have a plentiful supply of pastels (high school) and acrylic paint (college), just waiting to be picked up again.

Michale Jackson lyrics / Avatar comic strip. Different one-joke panels, going down vertically:

Katara, posing dramatically: "The Avatar is not my lover; he's just a boy who thinks that I am the one!!!" *

Toph, deadpan, to a sheepish Koh: "It doesn't matter if you're black or white."

Azula standing over a bloody Zuko corpse, saying "Ani are you okay? Are you okay, ani?" [this is my favorite]

This comes from discovering Michael Jackson songs on my computer and listening to my favorites on repeat this week. Actually, "Black or White" isn't a particular favorite, but I thought of this image and loved it.

Note to self: MUST LEARN TO DRAW IN SUPERDEFORMED.

* The use of Aang/Katara in this strip is because "Prince Zuko" or "Jet" or "Haru" don't work rhythmically for mimicking the lyrics "Billie Jean" nearly as well as "the Avatar" does. It could have just as easily been one of those three if their syllable count was right. I love mocking of all boys and ships equally.

I find it kind of amazing that there are fair number of professional animation / comics / design artists who have DeviantArt accounts, and not only do they have personal accounts, but they post professional, commissioned work on the same account that they post fan art or original artwork. It's so interesting! I can think of at least two off the top of my head from Avatar Fandom, which is the only cartoon fandom I participate in right now: NotThePornStar, and rufftoon, who both draw/ have drawn Avatar:The Last Airbender characters professionally, as official comics or press art. Then there's a person who got job offers after doing the Simpsons cast in an anime style.

It's just... kinda weird. A strange overlap of fandom and RL. I wonder what production companies and networks THINK of places like DeviantArt? Obviously some artists have permission to post the liscenced images that they created directly for the show/enterprise on their accounts, so that must mean at the minimum a tacit permission in some cases, maybe even embrace of fandom in other cases.
timepiececlock: (Shigure loves his popsicles)
HAHA.

The joke really only makes sense if you've seen the 9th Doctor series and the third season of ATLA, which makes it a pretty awesome and deeply geeky joke. What better kind is there?

Looking back on this fabulous image, I was reminded of the character designs of Roku and Sozin, as compared to Iroh, Ozai, Zuko, and Azula. Sozin looked to be shorter, like Iroh. Azulon was too old to tell, but Ozai appears to be tall, as does Ursa. We don't know what Iroh's son looked like in full. But isn't that interesting? The grandson most agaisnt war, Iroh, most closely resembles Sozin. But Ozai got the tall & pretty genes, and then he married Ursa who has Avatar Roku's tall & pretty genes, and the result is Zuko and Azula... Zuko isn't super-tall but he's gotten taller since the series began, and both he and Azula seem to take more physically from their mother than from Ozai. Zuko's face is very long and narrow, very oval, in comparison to Iroh's, as is Azula's (seriously, their chins could cut glass, those siblings.) Have I mentioned I love Zuko's new rebel outfit? It's very FN+Adventure. Everyone gets new clothes with this episode!

Sometimes the internet is a happy place. Take for example, Iroh and the Boston Tea Party.

edit1: And I adore this Zuko fanart. I gotta lear to do coloring like that-- it looks like pastels, almost.

edit2: This Aang vs. Koh Spirit fanart rocks my socks, too. The detail in it is beautiful.
timepiececlock: (Naruto - Thursday's child)
This tutorial makes line art and photoshop cell-style colorizing look so damn easy. It's making me want to make fanart right now. Since figuring out line art from sketches has always been overwhelmingly intimidating to me every time I've tried, and no one's ever explained it to me... I have to say I'm really twigged on this tutorial. I want to draw something and try all these steps.

Oh, and funniest Naruto thing I've seen in forever. It's a flash animation video, and it's worth watching all two minutes of. I can't decide which I like more: Gaara singing along with "My hump, my hump" or the dancing chibis at the end (especially Sasuke... and you'll see what I mean if you watch it.)
timepiececlock: (Yellow kakashi face)
This should amuse the Kakashi fans out there. Or any Naruto fan who's ever lived with an evil, attention-grabbing, violent cat that masquerades by day as a cute, furry animal.
