My youthful reading habits... and tv.

Thorugh a string of happenstance webbrowsing, I ended up on the wikipedia page for the Animorphs tv series. Never watched it myself-- never even saw an ad. But I read about half of the book series as a kid.

Get this: apparently Jake was played by Shawn Ashmore. As in... that guy. From X Men.

Oh lordy, I am *so* happy I never saw Animorphs on tv. So very, very happy.

Rachel was played by that little slip of a girl who dated Sean and Sean's brother on The 4400? Not who I pictured at. all.

I had such a crush on Shawn Ashmore when I was young because of that series.

And the guy who played Ax. He was mini!me's tv boyfriend.

I had a half-crush on the book character Jake. I halfway wanted to be his girlfriend, and I half just plain wanted to be him. Without a penis, of course. But I would so have wanted to be the leader in any alien-fighting animal morphing team, and attitude-wise I had more in common with him than Cassie, Rachel, or Marco.

You have no idea how loudly I squealed in the first X-Men movie. My friends were like o_O at me when I kept going "Iceman is JAKE? OMFG!"

God, the show was horrible. But it was fun, and pretty much followed the books plot-for-plot to start out with.

Like catystorm said, the show was horrible, but I enjoyed it. I had a huge crush on Christopher Ralph, who played Tobias.

I read about half the books as well, but stopped after a while and just read the final one, which was kind of a disapointment.

It's funny that you mentioned Animorphs, because I had a dream about it last night...which is odd because I haven't thought about that show or the books in years! Ah...childhood memories! :)

God, that show was so so SO bad. Marco had a Spanish accent and wasn't short. The kids were always running around as humans and hardly ever used their morphs. The Andalites looked unbearably stupid and shoved each other instead of using their tails to fight. The whole thing was just embarrassing.

He's just not what I imagined Jake to look like at all. Maybe I was just too used to the kid on the book covers, which Shawn Ashmore looks nothing like. It's just... his face is all wrong! And his voice!... it's a good thing I never saw it.

I just spoiled myself for the ending. I'm surprised at the death involved. I don't remember why I stopped reading... I think I just got tired after 25+ books.

WELL, in the books I think Jake was brunette and Tobias was blonde. But Jake's defining feature was this aura of leadership and Shawn Ashmore does a pretty good job with that.

I don't think television or film adaptations should be confined to a book's physical description, unless it's essential to the plot (so a black Ford Prefect is okay, a white Othello is not be okay).

I agree with that in the general sense, but it's also conditional upon the character and the actor, and what each reader takes out of the work. Even if Shawn Ashmore had had brown hair, I still wouldn't like him as Jake, from what I've seen of him so far. It's just... wrong.

Ford Prefect was the best part of that movie. He was a jem of perfection amongst a lot of unfunny rocks.

I didn't particularly like him, he didn't match my idea of Ford Prefect (thinks he smooth, but is not nearly as smooth as he thinks -- except when he is). But yeah, it seems we both generally agree.

Ideally, the tv show was what got me interested in the books in the first place. :)

I :hearted: Tobias. Tobias was my first fandom love. Since then, I have moved on to other, angstier fandom loves, ::coughcouchZukocoughcough:: but Tobias was my first, and therefore always has a special place in my heart. :love:

It's been years since I've seen the TV show, so I honestly couldn't tell you all differences. Sorry. >.<

Between the TV show and the books, I liked the books better, It's funny though with the actors and the characters they portrayed. Although the books say that Tobias is a dirty blonde, in the first cover of him on #3, his TV actor looked correct. I remember reading somewhere that the book cover models changed quite a bit except for Cassie who remained the same.
