Dec. 5th, 2006 12:15 amDear Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip,
Yes! Finally! You finally had an episode I really, really liked. An episode I thoroughly enjoyed watching and liked, for more than just tWW loyalty or my slightly embarassing crush on Bradley Whitford.
I've been waiting for you to kick in and make me like you. You are still obscenely preachy--and you still had to deal with some lame plotlines--but tonight I genuinely liked you.
Good for you. Make me like you again next episode, and we could be going somewhere.
I like that they've worked to make Jack less of a chariacature (sp?) and more sympathetic in the last few weeks, but I hope they don't make him too soft. The show needs an uptight ruthless boss for some balance.
I'm still mostly uninterested in Matt/Harriet, but tonight they were more amusing than usual.
Simon and Tom continue to be the funniest thing in the show. All the other actors play very well off those two, and they play well off each other, and it's good times all around.
From a plot standpoint the pregancy bugs the crap out of me, because it feels like the series writers are really grasping at straws for ways to make Jordan controversial. First they had her be sexy and smart and professional at the same time (whoa, so MUCH controversy in that for a woman) who was going to shape things up as a free-thinking person in corporate. Then they gave her this stupid subplot about having a sordid reputation in the press, which makes no sense at all because NO ONE CARES ABOUT TV EXECS. I don't even know the names of anyone in television production beyond the executive producer of my favorite shows... and that's only like 4 shows, maybe 5, in the last 6 years or so of tv. And I only know those names because of online fandom. Anyway, that plot was pretty lame. And WHY does Jordan have to be controversial? Why can't she just be their boss who happens to be female too? So now the writers are desperate or something, and the last cliche they apparently can think of to make a female boss controversial is to make her pregnant. Thanks, guys. Your scope of brainpower is just astounding.
Nevertheless, once I get over my annoyance about that, the actual pregnancy-relevent content of the episode was amusing and endearing. Which brings me to my last point-- the Danny/Jordan subplot. I liked it, I really did. I like their chemistry, and I think they'd make a good pairing for a tv show. Nevertheles... IT'S TOO SOON. I don't want to wait 6 years like I did for Donna/Josh, but come on, this could have happened nearer to the end of the season, or in season 2. It's only been like ten episodes since the premier! And already the four major characters are getting into romantic relationships? I like that stuff, but DON'T RUSH ME.
Anyway, it was a good episode. And did I mention, my crush on Bradley Whitford? Still there.
