Heroes, last week's episode
Dec. 12th, 2006 10:37 pmThings are starting to happen, finally. I think that's why I enjoyed this episode more than anything that's aired so far, although I'm far from loving the show. They were trying to keep a level of dramatic tension with the first several episodes that just didn't work at all for me, and I was bored. At least with the last two episodes stuff has started to HAPPEN, so it relies less on the dramatic tension which wasn't there in the first place, and we're free to just enjoy the events.
The actor who plays Mohinder is still the prettiest person in the cast. I mean...wow is he pretty. The guy who plays Peter is very cute, but next to Mohinder his pretty factor doesn't hold equal water.
Some episode-spoilery thoughts. What to do with an exploding man? Well that's pretty easy. You've got two solutions right there-- either Peter's brother grabs him and sends him up into space, or Hiro grabs him and sends him through space and time to explode somewhere that's harmless.
The problem with this show is that they no sooner introduce problems than there are several easy solutions RIGHT THERE in the cast of superpowers they've already established, so it's hard to get worried about anything. Why worry, when it's obvious? And heavy-handed.
I suppose now we're meant to believe that Hiro takes the exploding man back in time and kills the dinosaurs? ::yawn:: Still, that scene of the dinosaur painting was amusing.
I am still confused about Peter Petrelli's powers. I had thought before he was an empath, which explained the fact that he was sharing dreams with his brother, and/or with the artist, and the fact that he can temporarily share other people's powers. It even fit the nurse persona. But now his dreams are precognitive? How does that make sense? Even by superhero magic logic that doesn't make sense--- even the artist doesn't dream precognitively.
Anyway. The next episode is apparently January 22, which means I'll get to see one episode before I leave for Americorps. I might catch up on the rest of the season at some later date.

Date: 2006-12-13 05:38 pm (UTC)YES. And what made it worse was that I came with high expectations since everyone on the internet (it seems) loves this series. And the scriptwriters tried to add to the tension with these totally boring, overdone comic-book speeches, f'r instance:
"God's most perfect creation might be...the cockroach" *dramatic hush*
(Is this guy really a genius? Cause I'm not seeing the genius here.)
"Do you ever feel like you...are special?"
(No, neither I nor anyone else has ever felt that way! You're the first! eyeroll eyeroll eyeroll.)
I dunno, maybe I just don't like superhero comics-based stuff. But everyone's powers are so good and they don't use them right.

Date: 2006-12-15 06:04 am (UTC)It's rather amusing to watch non-comics readers watch this show and get frustrated over the way it's presented. (Not directing this at you, no way.) "They didn't even have such and such in this ep, didn't even say what happened to so and so!" That's the way an issue of a regular comic book is, people. You're liable to go three issues before going back to another character's storyline which was pretty dramatic at that point.
It's some fun TV for me. I like it.
