I...I...just got spoiled for Fruits Basket.

...!!!!!!

It was a one-word mood spoiler, really. Barely even constitutes a spoiler. But at the same time, it's a huge spoiler, depending on how the reader views mood spoilers. For me, sometimes, mood spoilers are much worse than plot spoilers.

I found out... that it has a happy ending.

That's good, right? I mean, I figured it would... logically of COURSE it would... but I would rather have experienced it myself, let the angst and tragedies of the Sohmas loom as a possibility right up until the last page.

Oh well. Just because it has a happy ending doesn't mean Akito doesn't kill someone before the end. I can see Akito taking out Shigure in a murder-suicide. Anyway, DON'T TELL ME! Spoilers are leperous to me; I didn't even want to know this little and really very guessable one! Silence!

Oh damn, it's been far too long since I read Fruits Basket. I think I stopped somewhere around volume 16... I gave up on scanlations because the translations were becoming unintelligable. I wonder how many volumes are officially in print in the US by now? How many there are total? I should go to Barnes & Noble tomorrow and just read them in the aisles. Graphic novels are great for that; you can finish one in anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.

OH MY GOD, IT'S BEEN AGES, HASN'T IT? Since I got a furuba fix. Okay, I'm definitely going tomorrow. I'd go right now but they're closed cause it's way late.

It's been released in the United States through Volume 18, and there are 23 in total.

Eh... the big Kyo stuff near the end of the anime appears in volume 5 or 6, I think. But there are things in the anime that happen out of order from the progression of the manga... like the episode where Tohru tries on Ayame's costumes. That happens after the Kyo stuff, in the manga. It's not a big deal, but if you're going to read the manga I'd suggest starting from one of the very early volumes and not trying to pick up where the anime left off, since the two don't exactly follow the same path, although most everything in the anime did come from the manga.

The only significant difference, at least in those early volumes that the anime covers, is that the anime gives better treatment to Kyo and Yuki's relationship. In the manga the the main focuses are Tohru/Yuki and Tohru/Kyo, but in the anime it's Tohru/Yuki/Kyo, with the complex relationship between the two boys being given nearly equal attention, and some measure of resolution. But then again, the anime really only covers the beginning quarter of the whole manga series. AND IT IS SO WORTH IT. God, if only they could make more episodes of FB. The manga has enough fodder for two more seasons, probably. One at the very least.

23! That's so many! I'm so excited!

By the time the 23rd comes out (god, FB takes longer than any other series in the US, I swear) I will have a job, and theoretically be able to buy all the volumes I haven't already purchased. (I think I have 11 or so.)

I adore fanfiction, and I haven't read FB fanfic for nearly two years, on account of me quitting scanlations and all. Isn't that sad? It breaks my heart. This self-exile from fandom for the sake of avoiding spoilers... It's only because I love this series so much. I wouldn't bother with any other title.

Trust me, I know what you mean. I've tried to give up scanlations on all of the current series that I'm following, so I've been having to wait for each new volume to be released in the States. It's seriously driving me crazy.

Hahaha, there are many posts in the main Furuba Yahoo mailing list to testify to the extremely dark nature of my speculations as to the end of the series...'cause that's how anyone with eyes and a brain would have taken it. I mean, that whole travelling fool story Momiji tells near the beginning of the story casts such a long, ominous shadow over the rest of the story, right...? RIGHT???

That's a good point about the traveling fool... but then again that story was just a less-awesome version of the giving tree. I think Tohru definitely represents the giver and the Sohmas the takers, but I don't think it forecasts an ending for the show. I never cared for the way the parable was used in the manga anyway.

I hate little tiny MAJOR spoilers toooooo. I made [livejournal.com profile] octopedingenue tell me how the series ends so I'm immune to FB, but a little while ago someone spammed all over fanfiction.net with an advertisement for a few ficcing community. It was long and kind of annoying and I was skimming through it trying to get the basics, and they spoiled the ENTIRE ENDING of PotC "At World's End" in one three-word phrase. Since I don't get out to see movies much anymore, and the movie is only just NOW coming out on DVD, I was like "thanks, fantards." 9_9 (Still very bitter and I don't even LIKE PotC all that much.)
