Alcohol can be tasty
Jun. 7th, 2008 01:14 amI bought a small bottle of Frangelico so that I can practice making a chocolate cake shot, aka the tastiest shot ever according to yours truly.
*youtube videos aren't playing on my computer at the moment so I can't actually watch this but going by the comments they're correct.
** the "nuts and berries" shot is pretty good too.

Date: 2008-06-07 11:22 pm (UTC)Hm... comic con. Last time I went to a con four years ago I was underage. This could be very fun! Have you ever had a jager bomb? That would be a good drink for a convention adventure. 1/2 can Red Bull and 1 - 2 oz Jagermeister. Like many shows/movies can, it takes two disgusting things and when you combine them, they mysteriously become tasty and fun.

Date: 2008-06-07 11:47 pm (UTC)Though I've had margaritas or champagne a couple times a year ever since I was around 16 or 17, I never really drank until I was about 20 and a half, in my college dorm. I was in a party dorm so I drank enough for the first five months to find out what my limits were and what I liked (yes tequila, vodka no), then I basically had a fallout with 2/3 of my small dormhouse, which included the people usually hosting the party. Then in the next two years I consumed enough to be "drunk" probably only half a dozen times. Then last year happened in AmeriCorps, and I partied a lot. In New Orleans for four months I drank average once a week, sometimes twice. That's a lot for me, anyway. I tried a lot more crazy drinks (and different kinds of shots) but there's a lot of alcohol out there I've never tried. I don't even know what a martini tastes like.
I think my mom got annoyed last Thanksgiving because we hosted it at our house and all the younger cousins/siblings are at least 20 now, so some were playing poker and drinking all night for like 4 days straight. The day AFTER thanksgiving we went in the morning to Six Flags theme park, and three of the guys were so sick, having gotten wasted and had maybe 5 hours of sleep. My brother went on one roller coaster, stepped off, and threw up on the platform. :snicker: I take my rollercoaster-going more seriously, and made sure I had enough sleep.

I used to have really strong opinions about buying alcohol for younger people, but that pretty much evaporated last year. Turns out my moral fortitude is not terribly high in that regard, under the right circumstances. Especially since I'm always the person who's trying to be responsible and aware and keep track of time, etc, so I would mistakenly think "It's okay, I'll watch over them!" Luckily I was surrounded by good people in a team-based setting (and in the middle of New Orleans, which is a city of indulgence like none I've ever seen--indulgence of every food, drink, song, idea, sex, or dance), so it our supervisors, who were mostly the same age, took the "we don't want to know, so don't tell us, and don't be stupid about it," approach.
Since then, I've never even been in a situation where I was asked to consider buying alcohol for someone who couldn't. All of my friends are over-age.

Date: 2008-06-08 12:31 am (UTC)I've never been really close to getting arrested but there was this one funny moment I had on Bourbon Street in N.O. with a club bouncer. THere was a 20-year-old fellow AmeriCorps guy standing next to me with a beer (though NOT one I had purchased) outside a bar/club, and we were waiting for our friend to come out, and the bouncer recognized me from having been by about ten minutes before to ask if they were 18+ or 21+ because we had a younger friend. The bouncer asked me something like "You were by here a few minutes ago, and you said someone in your party was under 21, are they here?"
And I (being well past the driving limit but not TOO drunk) looked at him with a blank face and tried my best lying attempt. Which I don't get practice for, well, almost ever. I said "No, he left with some others to find a different place for 18 and over." I had to will myself not to look to my friending right next to me and in my head I was shouting mentally at him to "SAY NOTHING SAY NOTHING BE COOL SAY NOTHING!" Apparently my friend looked old enough (he did have facial hair) because the bouncer left us alone. I felt very rebellious about it at the time, and ridiculously proud of myself...probably because I was tipsy.
