Doctor Who - 4x12

"But... Rose is coming back. Isn't that good?" See, THIS is why the Doctor needs a friend, and not another lover. Someone to be understanding and sympathetic and to cut through his bullshit fronting without all the awkward complications. Also... I loved DT's smile, and his "Yeah." And Donna's returning smile.

OMG, did the earth just blow up? Far out.

Or... oh, it's a dark cloud. ...NO! It's a BILLION EARTHS! That's so cool. Totally impossible (gravitational fields anyone? Proximity? Hello?) but still radically cool. That explains the "Stolen Earth" title.

Bad ass entrance, Rose.

I wish I had been watching Torchwood or Sara Jane so I'd know who all these other characters are. I do applaud a three-way television crossover episode.

Rose: "I'm walkin' my beat. MexicoEarth's my beat, and I'm walking it."

I'm not too keen on Donna's mother... what is with this show and its negative portrayal of mothers?

Jack: "No...no..." Oh Jack. You remember that sound so well, don't you? It's the last sound Captain Jack Harkness heard before he died.

"Daleks are the masters of earth!" ...why do they care so much about Earth? I guess if they're hoping to flesh out the Doctor... but don't they generally have bigger fish to fry? They fought a whole friggin' Time War. Except... maybe these Daleks didn't? The Dalek's from the our universe are dead and gone, but perhaps these are from Rose's universe or another one altogether.

Women Wept is gone? Hah. I don't recognize the other names. Hm... 27 planets in a co-dependent orbit to make some kind of engine.

"Without the Dalek God none of this would be possible." Did I hear that right? But this dalek face is small and wriggly... the Dalek God was a giant purple mass.

"blah blah bees blah infinitely small bla blah" What? Slow down, Doctor! I can't follow your rapid-fire slurs. It's hard enough for me to follow the dialogue with the English accents even when you're just speaking at a normal pace. I am like 130% solid on American Slurred Words but for British Slurred Words I'm not good at all.

"And you will lead us into battle!"
"Right....Yes... Of course I will." Oh DT, you played that scene just right. That familiar resignation, the sudden weariness of battle and war and death and all the screams in the night. You've been there, and you're not going to be that again.

"D'ya wanna swap?" Me too.

Why is Billie Tyler slurring all her words? It's like watching the first twenty minutes of My Fair Lady.

"Don't do this to me! You never give up. Please!" I know exactly how Donna feels. I had this zombie dream with Nine in it and we were locked in this motel room with only my dog and the Doctor and someone else and 28 Days Later zombies were running around outside all crazy, and the Doctor didn't do anything. We just waited to be discovered and eaten. It's was not fun.

HARRIET JONES I LOVE YOU. I RECOGNIZED YOUR VOICE.

"Who's she? I wanna get through." ::snort:: Oh Rose, I know. Sucks to be outside the the friends lock, eh.

"Might I say: looking good ma'am." HAHA. Still Jack. Can't resist a challenge. ...and Rose's side comments continue to crack me up.

"...the Doctor's secret army!" Oh, Rose is really to hate being left out of that. Almost, who smells a bit of a Dumbledore's Army influence here?

"Marvelous woman. I voted for her." ::GRIN::

I wonder if Harriet Jones turned on the computer nearest to Rose deliberately, and kept her silent deliberately? That way Rose gets to know what's going on but her presence is like a secret weapon that no one knows about yet. Or was HJ just trying to dial out to Donna? It is Donna's house.

Oooh, Time War backstory! But, I agree with the Doctor that this is clearly cheating by the Daleks. Time War is time locked, duh. Everyone knows that! They so cheated. The cheaters. Cheating Dalek cheaters who...cheat.

"Why don't you ask her yourself?" Donna is a shipper. Hell yeah.

::Watching the extended running sequence with the rising music and the...rising music:: She better not fucking die right before hugging him, dammit.

Oh, the Doctor gets shot. Well, that's alright. He'll get better.

Holy shit, he's REGENERATING? That's a casting spoiler I was totally unprepared for! Unless they're going to go back in time and undo his regeneration... does that work? Or is the Doctor's personal timeline "time locked" to prevent that from happening? I'm so confused. And oh Rose, Rose... you finally get back to him, and he changes again. You'll probably never have the chance to love this new version. And while I definitely maintain the person fanon/canon that Ten was regenerated to look and be what Rose liked (pretty, talky, social, and totally in love with her), one can hardly imagine that would happen a second time. I wonder who he'll be?

And... HOW was I not spoiled for this? I must be better than I thought. No, my flist is better than I thought. THANK YOU FLIST FOR BEING SO GREAT AND NOT SPOILING ME AT ALL. YOU ROCK! KUDOS!

Overall: loved it. A bit too busy to be dramatic, but fun and exciting.

One more thought, in a shippy vein: I am glad we got a romantic reunion, or at least an attempted romantic reunion. I'm glad that their feelings are still strong on both sides. The Doctor's pure joy, and his fear and hesitation...Rose's happiness.... fantastic!

Also: note the lyrics in my icon!

I'm praying,
That you'll find me,
And that you'll see me,
That you'll run and never tire.

I wish I had been watching Torchwood or Sara Jane so I'd know who all these other characters are. I do applaud a three-way television crossover episode.

Sarah Jane Adventures, maybe. But TW? No. SJS, the boy is Luke. He was grown by aliens and is supersmart and super socially awkward. He doesn't understand human relationships and crap. SJS is raising him like a son, and they have adventures saving the world with two of Luke's friends. Gwen is like the Rose of TW, she was brought into the world of aliens and weirdness the same way Rose was in "Rose". Ianto was a dude who just served the coffee last series and, while I've only seen three eps of the show this past series, he's evolved into more of a team player. Owen and Tosh were two other members, they died while saving the world. I'm not sure exactly HOW, esp. considering Owen DIED at the end of one of the eps I'd watched earlier. So. You may want to get with a TW watcher for the details.

what is with this show and its negative portrayal of mothers?

From what I understand, RTD has mother issues. Kinda like how Joss has daddy issues.

Women Wept is gone? Hah. I don't recognize the other names. Hm... 27 planets in a co-dependent orbit to make some kind of engine.

The only other planet I recognized was Calufrax. It was in the Fourth Doctor serial, "The Pirate Planet" (written by Douglas Adams) and it was part of the Key To Time series which made up Series 16. The Doctor was present when that planet disappeared, just in another incarnation and time.

"Without the Dalek God none of this would be possible." Did I hear that right? But this dalek face is small and wriggly... the Dalek God was a giant purple mass.

The Dalek Emperor (from the S1 finale) and Davros are two totally different entities.

"Might I say: looking good ma'am." HAHA. Still Jack. Can't resist a challenge.

That was one of my favorite parts of the episode.

Or was HJ just trying to dial out to Donna? It is Donna's house.

I'm pretty sure it's this one. With as crazy as things were, she probably didn't know if Donna was home or with the Doctor. Even so, she might've assume Sylvia and Wilf knew of Donna's adventures in time and space.

I wonder who he'll be?

I'm still voting for Bill Nighy. He's even said in a recent interview if they asked him to do the show, he'd do it in a heartbeat. But, well, you'll find out what's going on soon enough. I don't know 100 percent sure myself, but I do know about some other things ...

I wasn't particularly impressed with this part, I'm reserving any real judgment on the content until after Saturday. I felt just ... whelmed. If you can even feel just WHELMED. Not over or under ... just ... yeah.

I'm kind of secretly hoping the regeneration is not going to be real, or is going to be reverted or something. I didn't realize it until now but I am so not ready to lose Ten as one of my Doctors. Also, SURPRISED! I had no idea. I am... flailing. There is much flail. With Nine's death I knew he'd regenerate from way early on, so I was prepared. Here, not so much. I'm hoping that the very fact that I was not given a "DT is leaving" casting spoiler means it must not be true. Also, there's a whole 40 minutes left! It's too early. ::FLAIL::

I don't think I could love Bill Nighy as much as DT or CE because he can get on my nerves sometimes. There's something very abrasive about Bill Nighy, and at times he's somewhat...creepy. I don't think I could take a creepy Doctor. I think he looks a little too much like the drunken older relative who gropes young women--not a way I want to envision the Doctor. But he's a good actor and he has great comic timing, so I would respect him as a hypothetical choice.

I felt just ... whelmed. If you can even feel just WHELMED.

I get that. It was pretty busy... it didn't seemed to have a plot so much as be a set-up for next episode. This was...what's the term? Starts with a P. Something to do with a filler episode that exists to set up exposition for the big event, but actually doesn't stand well on its own.

I enjoyed the experience of it, but so much was dumped on us that I do feel a bit whelmed myself.

Oh, to add:

I am flailing, but if you know anything about Ten's future or regeneration then don't tell me, I don't want to know.

Yeah, I was VERY careful to not slip up and make any spoilery comments.

This year's finale is going to be 65 minutes, instead of the usual 42/44.

Yeah, I didn't mind watching it. Though I couldn't help but notice on the first viewing there wasn't much plot happening. I'd only glanced at my F List when I came home from work last Saturday night, and I read a bunch of "YAY! BEST EPISODE EVER!" posts. Usually, when I see that, I'll feel the same or hate it.

This time, I sat there during the credits, thinking, "Is that all there is?" It wasn't until about five minutes before the end I started to get into what was going on. Then poof ... over. And don't get me started on the super cheesy "TO BE CONTINUED" thing slammed on the screen, complete with sound effects. Oi!

YAY LONG EPISODE!

I missed most of my flist's reaction by watching it several days later, but I wouldn't have said this was the best ever episode. It was pretty good. Nothing really annoyed me, and there was a lot going on. It just felt too busy for my tastes... there's so much story to set up so late in the game that it's all a rush. There's no real down time. I had the same problem as one of my few quibbles with Indiana Jones 4: no moment to rest.

I don't know if I would have liked it spread out to two episodes though... it might have felt too drawn out that way. It's hard to tell.

I watched the Confidential for this episode and they mention several more planets that have been mentioned as "lost" in this season: the Adipose breeding planet from 4x01, and the lost moon of Poosh being mentioned in Midnight, and the Porphyria (sp?) planet that the Pompeii seer said had disappeared from the heavens. I think there was also something from that Ood episode, but I can't remember.
