The way DW did the "doppleganger" trope was to have it in one episode, like most shows or stories. But Farscape was really different just BECAUSE they had the situation last so long, and they treated it with such seriousness. I've never seen a doppleganger plot done quite the way that Farscape did it. It didn't "ick" me out, but it took a while for me to get used to the idea that both Johns were the same. Usually "clone" stories have one be real and one be a copy, or the double "deviates" from the "original", taking a different name or deliberately making choices to set himself/herself apart as an individual. Both Crichtons were John Crichton and it took a while to wrap my head around that.
However, it makes it a lot easier for me now to look at DW and see the newly regenerated Doctor as still "the Doctor", no question, just with a few biological differences and a slight imprinting of Donna.
